I would like to install a set of tweeters to my 2004 Alero. I found the door mounts from a 2000, but I need add the wiring. Can I connect it to the door speaker or do I have to run a wire to the HU.

I got the mounts with speakers, but plan on replacing all the speakers. I will be keeping the Factury HU.

well then that depends on what you end up going with, you can do 4x6 with tweeters, 5 1/4 components and that will come with a crossover.....it just depends on what speaker set up you wanna go with

whether you run them off the 4x6's in the doors(how factory ones are setup) or not...definitly run a bass blocker inline to each one.

i concur........im not a big fan of running any speakers off the headunit.......the lack of power, sound quality, and adjustments are not as good as an external amp.......

Thanks for the help. I ordered a Bass Blocker yesterday. Small Town and no place to get parts.

How would I mount a 5 1/4 in the 4x6 opening? also where would you hide the crossover?

B) Dig it:

This was taken from the Grand AmGT forums, courtesy of the member sunrunner_pei:

"For my 6.5" mids I used a Metra adapter, part# 82-3300

I had to do a little trimming of the interior door panel to clear the speaker, but it was nothing serious at all. No cutting of metal involved.

For my tweeters, I bought a pair of the plain sail panels (No tweeter hole), then used a hole saw to flush-mount my tweets."

I know this guy used the adapters for 6.5's, but the adapter is capable of mounting 5.25's aswell, it has a removable "ring". Depending on what diameter speaker you choose, this adapter can do both.
You can hide the crossover on the metal door panel, there's a bit of room in there. Just use some of that double-sided 3M tape.
