Not to sound un-ejumakaded  , but i thought drifting was a RWD sport, so the rearend could break loose in the turns.

^^ its possible to do in a fwd using the hand brake. But very challenging. I been able to drift but I also butterflied my driver side front wheel. which it why I got new tie rods. And it pretty easy but I been doing alot of damage to my cv joints.

You cant drift with a front wheel drive car in a competition, he wouldn't beable to keep enough speed. By the sounds of it he just does it for fun at a go cart track.

I do it on snow and ice. Dont even need the E-brake. Its easier and more controlable with the E-brake though. Only do this when there aren't cars comming towards me or I have to get into a really tight spot. On concrete or cement its more controlable due to having more traction. I've only done it on pavement like 3 times though and that was just a U-turn. On pavement it would be wise to get stronger parts as you are doing though.

in FWD, it's "power sliding" :D

or understeer

Grouch

that would be oversteer. Understeer is when you turn the front wheels and the vehicle continues the same direction it was travelling, ie front wheels losing traction and sliding. Understeer = bad.

Oversteer is when the back wheels lose traction in a turn. Oversteer = fun. :P

i, like everyone else with a working e-brake, do it in the snow though.....or reverse 360's, those are just as fun. your going to wear the poop out of your tires, and possibly get flat spots.

Grouch you are very wise, understeer is bad, oversteer is definitely fun, and today I just got my car back. Replaced the CV joints on the passenger side, and banged out the dent in my fender.

If you understeering you might want to check you front tire for gripe first followed by alignment check (free at dobbs), if you have coilover check to make sure that the ride height is the same up front. Lastly thou I doubt it could be the case see if one of the caliper is slipping.

Quoted post

FWD cars cannot drift. Its a matter of physics that cannot be overcome in our universe. I've tried to explain this to so many kids now that I am back in the US and most don;t want to listen or educate themselves. They just want....NEED to be part of the latest fad and will not let anything like reality stop them

If you ever go to Japan and start insisting that FF can drift, well then get ready for a whole lot of :emotlol:

You need FR to drift but AWD can do it. I had an AWD Skyline (R32) and it was tough but doable. I prefered touge and this is where FF cars can do well. But then again, there is no cartoon/touge series on TV to have a bandwagon to jump on.
