I've noticed lately that many people around here are missing their front plates, or have no bracket at all. Did our plate law change? All I could find was an article that said Ohio might get rid of front plates. If Ohio did, my front plate is gone.

I was traveling through Ohio this past Friday and Sunday.. Maybe I'm weird but I always catch myself looking at plates but anyway, I never saw an Ohio car with only one plate.

Ohio Code Section 4503.21 (http://onlinedocs.andersonpublishing.com/oh/lpExt.dll?f=templates&fn=main-h.htm&cp=PORC)(Title XLV) states you need both a front and back plate on your car. Some states require a front plate and some don't. In the states that require it most people just take them off and put them back on for court if they got a ticket for it or they took it off to take pictures. ;)

Hate the front plate...but the best idea I ever saw was a custom set of plates in the front it said "FRONT" and in the back it said "BACK" on a 74 VW beetle

I've gotten a couple of tickets for not having a plate on the front of my car here. The first was on my Eagle. I didn't put it on the front because there was no where for one. Got pulled over and the officer wrote me the ticket and basically said I have to drill holes in my bumper for it. The second was on my Geo a couple of months ago. The tag was in my windshield and the officer still wrote the ticket claiming they have to be in the front most part of the car. That one pissed me off. Both tickets were like $20-$30 each but the damn court costs were about $75 each time.

Colorado is also front and back.

Colorado Title 42 - Article 3 - Section 123

42-3-123. Number plates to be attached.

(1) (a) Number plates assigned to a self-propelled vehicle other than a motorcycle or street rod vehicle shall be attached thereto, one in the front and the other in the rear. The number plate assigned to a motorcycle, street rod vehicle, trailer, or semitrailer, any other vehicle drawn by a motor vehicle, or any item of mobile machinery or self-propelled construction equipment shall be attached to the rear thereof. Number plates shall be so displayed during the current registration year, except as otherwise provided in this article.

( B ) Repealed.

(2) (a) Every number plate shall at all times be securely fastened to the vehicle to which it is assigned, so as to prevent the plate from swinging, and shall be horizontal at a height not less than twelve inches from the ground, measuring from the bottom of such plate, in a place and position to be clearly visible, and shall be maintained free from foreign materials and in a condition to be clearly legible.

( B ) A person shall not operate a motor vehicle with an affixed device or a substance that causes all or a portion of a license plate to be unreadable by a system used to automatically identify a motor vehicle. Such a device includes, without limitation, a cover that distorts angular visibility; alters the color of the plate; or is smoked, tinted, scratched, or dirty so as to impair the legibility of the license plate.

(3) (a) A person who violates any provision of this section commits a class B traffic infraction.

( B ) A person who violates paragraph ( B ) of subsection (2) of this section commits a class A traffic infraction and shall be punished by a fine of one hundred dollars.

With my bra I'm hoping a cop will just give me a warning to cut out the front plate portion if I ever get pulled over. I've had the bra on for about a year, gone by many cops, many speed traps, none of them showing any interest of pulling my butt over.

I had my RX-7 in Cali, Ohio, and Colorado and I never got a ticket for not having a front license plate. Yeah, I know it's required, but most cops won't give you a ticket for that unless they already have you pulled over for something else.

In New York City, if your car is parked and missing a front license plate, you will get a ticket. :wah:

except they can still ticket you for that. it actually has to be on the front bumper.
