hey im thinking about putting vinyl on my tail lights for a temporary look till i get real custom ones. what i needed was opinions from you guys on what style vinyl i should get, i was thinking about carbon fiber vinyl, chrome vinyl, or just black vinyl. i visted sites like; http://www.autodirectsave.com/Carbon_Fiber_vinyl.asp and http://www.glfi.com/vinylbook_carbonfiber.htm. maybe you guys have better sites you know of? anyways heres 2 ass end pics of my car, i'll try to draw up some ideas of what i want it to look like and maybe someone can photoshop me something. B) or should i just try to tint my tails? http://img93.exs.cx/img93/8477/Nov_24_013.jpg

1) with that color car, I wouldn't do anything with vinyl. It's a classy color and vinyl = NOT classy.
2) the second link is for upholstry vinyl. Ideal for the interior, if you're going for the OSV style.

I agree vinyl belongs on houses not your alero!! Just would not go good with your car... my 2 cents

yea, your car looks sweet how it is, i think even pinstriping would give somewhat negative results, even though it works on other color cars.

what do you guys think about pinstriping on a black 4 door?? the tail lights look really huge considering there the only think not black or chrome.... or perhaps tinting the tails too?!?!?

alright i guess, trunk shaving it is, but should i even tint my tails? like 35% or something?

Tinting? Maybe. But I do agree with all the comments prior to mine. You've got a clasy looking Alero man, and Although I have vinyl on my tails, it just wouldn't look right. I think the only way I'd alter those tails if I were you, would be to have Ander make some custom ones, but include the color of your car into the finished product. now that would fit your car's style, bar-none. eyah but im kinda missing about 400$ to do that...

Well, the only way around that is to do the pinstriping thing like I did, but I really do think the only way it'll look good is with something color-matched to your paint. Other than that, I'd say chrome, but color matched vinyl would look WAY better IMO.
BTW, sweet sig, Forbidden.

i'd love to see pinstriping in bronze mist.......psh

I'd say try chrome pinstriping on your tails, it would look good with the rims and door handles, and maybe get a shrome windshield sticker or something else to tie it all in together. If you don't like the tails its only $10 out of your pocket. I think it would look good. Check out mine in the How to section.

If I were you and had your car, which I'm not and I don't but anyway, I wouldn't pinstripe the tails. If you're really wanting to do something soo bad, tint em. I just don't think vinyl would look good with the color of your car. I wouldn't tint them really dark though. Just my 2 cents.

I'm bored so I did a little photoshop of what tinted tails would look like. This turned out a little darker than I thought it would tho.. oh, I also tinted your windows (crappy job) and darkend that ugly Tennessee plate :P lol j/k

Agreed.
Your car color is a beautiful one. I think if you do anything to the tails, you would upset the look too much.

god.....half of you say tint the tails and the rest say tint the windows   :wah:

Your gonna be the one driving that thing around all day and looking at it. Do what your first instinct tells you, cuz if you dont you will regret it. haha, just some advice from bloke here. In all seriousness, Its all up to you, we can give you pointers and tips, but your the only one gonna like it, You might get flamed (like the guy with herc. tires and metal discs) or not, its just what you like, if your into that kind of stuff and you think its sexy as hell then do it, but yeah, i don't think pinstriping would look the best on your car, def. tint the tails and the windows. 5-25% for the windows is hot--i think anyway, there is my 50 cents for you!

Maybe it's just me but with the color of his car, I don't think the tails being the same color as the car would look good.

This is as close as I could get to your color, I think painting to match the body would look sweet. Hope CrazyTaxi doesn't mind me using his pic .

i just wanna get that damn amber blinker look out of my tail lights!, if i wanted to paint my tails the same as my car, that means i have to buy paint and make a design i want. im gonna need some photoshop helpers on this one, i'll try to redraw my ideas for my tail lights
smlzalero
02-10-2005, 01:36 PM
^ I think that's an excellent idea. B) You can always paint them, then tint the amber part so it's not so amber.
FormulaNERD
02-10-2005, 01:55 PM
i suggested that a long time ago, told him what paint to use and everything... they look good all red like grouch has his. maybe he will post the pic if he sees this.
-Alero-
02-10-2005, 05:14 PM
yeah and i posted a while back, of how to paint the amber. and i asked how to remove the tailights, so i could paint the inside, but everyone just told me to paint the outside, and no one knew how to take the tails apart but ander. i mean i have the paint just sittin in my garage.
smlzalero
02-10-2005, 06:40 PM
Well, it would be way easier to paint the outside. You could just apply tint to the whole thing, then lay the paint right over it with your designs masked off. No way I'm messing with taking them apart when I do mine.
FormulaNERD
02-10-2005, 08:33 PM
yea, you're not gonna get them apart, and put them back together again.
i mean it's possible, but you just arent gonna be able to do it.
-Alero-
02-10-2005, 09:45 PM
so i have to mask this off huh....well wont there be a noticeable, .5 mm layer of paint on the amber area?
smlzalero
02-10-2005, 10:03 PM
Yeah. There would be from painting a design anyway. It won't be all that noticable with a clear coat.
It's up to you, if you want you can pry your tails apart.
Travis99Alero
02-11-2005, 11:07 AM
or, u could leave them alone.
johny_boy32
02-11-2005, 11:39 AM
exactly...why are you so gun-ho on doing something with the tail lights. If you don't like the way they look, don't cover them up. Your going to be more frustrated with it then. And by the sounds of it (I might be wrong) you don't know what your doing, so A; you'll prolly screw it up or B: pay someone to do it. My 2 cents again, leave them alond or have anderbra make you a custom set of tails.
-Alero-
02-12-2005, 12:42 AM
i cant have anderbra do it right now, i dont have 300$, i just wanted to do somethign different, and temporary, considering painting the tail lights with an enamal, paint thinner can remove the paint.

02-12-2005, 01:29 AM
^That will work, just be careful not to let it eat the plastic.
