Alero04

Oki...I have Eurolights and i like em fine and stuff...but in ur guys opinions...what is better for headlights? <_< i love the bright white/blue effect that the Eurolights give me. But is there anything out there that is better? I dont care money wise, I just want to have really nice looking lights at night :)
let me kno?! im just a girl who doesnt know anything about cars lol!! slowwwwwly learning :D

Try Silvania SilverStars...they are highly recommended on this site from everyone that has them including myself. The bulb #'s are 9005 for hi-beams and 9006 for low-beams. You can buy them online at pfyc.com or at a local target. I hope that helps.

see i was told by the car freaks around here that that brand sucks! I was told that EuroLights were the best....
cuz I want the best lights. I dont care how much they cost

haha, you must be talking to the ricers.... eurolights suck, and eventually they'll fry your headlight harness.

then the car freaks in your area are jackasses. silverstars are the best you're gonna find without going to HID's.

i would do the HID conversion.

Crolero
02-10-2005, 09:57 AM
Yea get the silverstars, ive got the preimiums they are about the same as the silverstars but not as expensive. but if you've got the cash, go HID.

Super White Alero
02-10-2005, 11:06 AM
Eurolights are decents but they will eventually fire your wiring harness, But if that no biggy then go with Eurolight but make sure they are by EuroEffect, the other seem to fire your harness faster. Or if money really isn't a biggie go HID, and get the 14000, that purple light it gives off, not the brightest light but definately you will get notice.

i got silverstars. like em.. but i still don't have my car back. 2 weeks to go...

Alero04
02-10-2005, 11:30 AM
what are HID??
and how much do they cost? see i dunno if id like the purple look....but maybe i dunno
now that u mention something about euro lights....my left one isnt working and when my ex went to see what was wrong he said my 'pigtail?' needs to be replaced?! wtf!!! is that my wiring?

Naich
02-10-2005, 11:38 AM
yes, that means the wiring burnt out from the higher wattage bulb.

Silverstars are the same wattage as stock, so they won't fry the harnesses.

HIDs are the types of lights on more upscale cars. They are very bright, and you will not need to use your high beams any more. They are like $350ish for a cheap conversion. But they won't look as nice withoug a projector retrofit which will cost a lot more.

Alero04
02-10-2005, 11:41 AM
oki...maybe i wont get HID's right NOW....so go with the silver whatever kind?
do euro lights really suck that bad?!?!?!?!

Alero04
02-10-2005, 11:45 AM
omg u have no idea how pissed off i am at my ex boyfriend right now....f*cker told me eurolights were the best and that those silver oens were crap....OMG! :pissed:

Naich
02-10-2005, 11:51 AM
yeah, eurolights look pretty nice, but the higher wattage will burn out the harnesses unfortunately. I learned that the hard way multiple times. I've had many many different kinds of lights.... eurolights in blue and purple, some japanese brands, piaa, a real HID conversion, and silverstars. Of the lot, I am currently sticking with the silverstars, and i've had them about a year now.

Silverstars won't look like HID, so don't expect that... but they're just about as nice as eurolights and they won't burn out your harness. Of course they are a bit more expensive than regular bulbs.....

Some guys on here have also reported good results with phillips bulbs, which i might try out this summer.

Alero04
02-10-2005, 11:54 AM
whats the deal with piaa? they any good?

Alero04
02-10-2005, 11:56 AM
my main concern is...i love the way euro lights look at night. i want that same look. i dont want it to look cheap or anything like that. i mean onc ei get the cash ill definately get some HID's but i want the same look at the euro lights gave me.....and i heard piaa is a good name? lol btu then again...its from the car losers in my city :P

rmulax19
02-10-2005, 12:31 PM
the eurolites will burn your harnesses causing a whole lot of frustration and unnecessary hassle.

i'm probably the 8th person to say this. i have seen it happen on more cars than aleros. eurolites look good but they draw so much power that they literally burn the harnesses right up. they are not fun to attempt to replace.

most people who have the slightest idea what they're talking about will tell you that silverstars are the next best thing to HIDs.

pertaining to all of the "car freaks" around your house...i'm willing to bet that one person tried the eurolites, liked them, told everybody that they were the best lights they've ever used, even though they never used any other lights, and that just snowballed into a whole buncha lies.

lol!! i think u must live near me by the way u kno how the morons are here. :)
There is this one huge group who sit in a parking lot of our play theater and they think they know all. I had no idea. Cuz I had asked my ex about those silver ones cuz I remmeber seeing them in our hardware store. and he told me they were poop. that Eurolights are the BEST lights u can get. Ive had them since....May and the left headlight went out in december. my ex wiggled it around and it came back on btu he complained that he got a shock or got burned (LOL looks good on him if u ask me B) ) and it only stayd on for about a few days after he wiggled it around. now its been out ever since. if i had known those silver ones were the best besides HID's i woulda gotten up without asking my moron ex and his loser car freak friends! Im glad i kno now tho! Cuz from what i remember, those silver ones are cheaper then Eurolights too....
btw...how much ARE the silver ones? <_<

HID's - High Intensity Discharge. they give the best look since yo udindt care moneywise, they will run you anywhere from 300$-700$ and if you dont want to install them yourself you can easily get some help from autozone or a dealership.

Yeah those Eurolights and bulbs on eBay usually have a 80 watt rating (100 watt for high beam) and all they do is cook the hardness. With an Alero, you have to replace the entire headlight which is about $300 for one from the dealer ($100 on eBay)

Stay with the stock wattage 55 watts for lowbeams and 65 watts for highbeams and you'll be good. I have the Silverstars too, for almost 2 years now, and they are fine. I also got the Silverstar turn signal bulbs. They look blue but light up orange, so they keep you nice and legal

Also, don't go with those cheap hardness extensions that CLAIM to prevent frying your hardness from using high wattage bulbs. I don't see how they work.

Ask your friends that say Eurolights are the best, "How much Horsepower you get from them" If they say anything other than 0, don't listen to them

LMAO...only a Ricer would say Sylvania Silverstar's suck. That's a gag! I can't stop laughing! You need to stop talkin to those dumbasses! Keep this in mind: A fart-can and a jumbo jet wing does NOT make your car faster so if any of them have either of those things on their cars, they don't know crap!

Definitly go w/ Sylvania Silverstars, hands down the best bulbs you can get w/o goin HID

P.S. I, personally, have melted a wire harness from 80w bulbs on my Alero <_<

depends how "crafty" you are....I fried my harness...the dealership will tell you that you have to replace the WHOLE thing (about $200/light) but I just pulled mine apart and soldered on new wire and everything was fine. If it comes to that I, or someone, could post a how-to (if it isnt done already)

Alero04
02-10-2005, 01:28 PM
well, i havent taken the bulb out. cuz honestly, i didnt think anything of it. my ex assured me he was going to fix it and it'd be fine...lies lies lies lies. :P
so should i go home and take the bulb out?
and me fix something wire wise? i dunno man...imma girl who is JUST learning light info....i dunno if i could fix something on my own and have it function afterwards :P

Get the new bulb first then take the old one out

Be sure not to touch the glass on the bulbs. Natural oils on human skin will cause the bulb to fail quicker

FormulaNERD
02-10-2005, 01:51 PM
they have some that appear to be blue on the outside, but at night they actually light up LEGALLY with orange. you can get those but if you want to risk getting pulled over (probably not a problem since you have euros now) you could just keep the euros, they should be the same wattage as stock, and not cause any problems. i run the blue euros with no problem...

If you're looking for a white light, go with silverstar, but if you want something with a noticable tint to it, definately go with PIAA. You may pay more for PIAA, but i've had mine for over 3.5 years now, so basically you're paying for quality. Depending on if you want a blue or a purple tint, go with either the plasma or super plasma bulbs.

mike2002
02-10-2005, 06:59 PM
i have silverstars, they arent blue at all, there more of a perfect white vs yellowish that stock lights have. im not really that impressed with them. i did some research and on other car forums people took pics with stock, then silverstar, then GE, then PHILLIPS...the ones that formulanerd just posted. the phillips but out the most light, way more than silverstars, GE was a close second, silverstar was 3rd, stock was 4th

get phillips

also, if your harness is bad, go to the junkyard and find any car that uses the same bulb as your car. take the bulb with you, and plug harness's into it untill you find one that fits, then just snip the thing off with 6" of wire still on it, then cut of your harness and splice it in. make sure not to mess up the polarity, just make sure it goes on the same way as the stock one

I just got 3 LED fuses, 1 for my dome and 1 for each light in my rearview, they look awesome.. haven't installed them yet ofcourse, my car is coming back in March... but from what i've heard/seen, they are nice and bright, and illuminate almost everything  also... how much to the Phillips brand headlights run? and are they a blueish tint like the Euro's? Cuz i'm looking for brightness, visibility factor, and like a blue tint in my headlights... I was looking at silverstars but they are like pure white... no tint, so are Phillips tinted?

FormulaNERD
02-11-2005, 08:15 PM
blue tint robs light output.

the phillips are as far from blue as it gets. and are the brightest standard wattage bulb you can find (and cheap to boot!)

and silverstars to add a bluish/purple tinge, it's just not something your brain processes as blue. but it does this to achieve the appearance of being brighter.

now i'm just waiting for someone to argue with me... hehe.

Alero04
02-12-2005, 03:35 PM
oki...i was told by the moron guys here...(in my city not on this forum) that piaa is too high of a wattage for my lights. adn my wiring sucks so thats why the euro lights didnt work....that everyone in the 'club' has euor's and they work fine. so its my wiring that is pathetic...not the lights....

FormulaNERD
02-12-2005, 03:53 PM
no. eventually, the euros will burn up any harness... some people go longer than others, but in the end they burn up.

i mean, some cars might have a higher headlight wattage, but that doesnt make it any better or worse than an alero.

they're just idiots trying to A) impress you B) feel better about themselves for owning a honda/toyota/neon/etc
