Well i finally got all my electronics working after running a wire over to the fuse box but it seems like the headunit is too long to get it back far enough in the dash with all the wires behind it...and without them. Theres a plastic plate inside the dash behind the radio, has anyone tried cutting this off or cutting through part of it?

yea, a few people have had to cut the plastic behind to mount the headunit flush, get a dremel and cut away!

they had to cut alot on mine and tape up the metal so you dont ground out your wires you dont want they will add a hum and a big thump some times too. alpine are very deep units at least the one i have.

I have a eclipse but it is pretty close to the same dimensions. Most of my problem was on the left hand side. I pretty much just drilled the entire plastic out. Just be carefull because it gets very hot. Plastic will retain heat and can catch fire.

hmmm i think my problem appears to be the big plastic block on my right looking in... that's removable right?

Yea just get a big screw driver and hit it hard in the middle or take a pair of pliers and bend/bust it out, not hard at all. only other problem u might have is if your wiring harness connector is in the bottom left. On mine i had to trim the trim plate at the end because the harness hits the metal brace in the back by just an inch or so and it makes the fit real tight.

turns out it was actually a plastic piece on the left side looking in, it was getting in the way of the harness. i cut out a lot of the plastic back there to give it somewhere to pull the wires and with a little force everything fit really nicely.
