View Full Version : Ugh No Bass, Whats Going On?

Ok I took my sub box out of the car because the amp on it was getting loose. I took care of that then reconnected everything, 12v, rem, ground, sub wires, and the inputs, but now it doesn't work. I rechecked to make sure I connected the right wires to the right parts, supposedly no problems there, but still no bass.

What else should I check? The amp's power light is on when I have the radio on yet I'm getting nuthin from the trunk. What (do you think) gives?

Do you have a fuse breaker near your Battery? if you do change that with a new one and I bet you will be good to go.

Good luck

Mine cut in and out, then stopped all together.

It was apparently a loose fuse holder.

yea check the fuse......if that turns out ok......if your amp has input and output rca's make sure u r plugged into the right ones....

Im using high level inputs and there's nothing physically wrong with the fuse (shoudl there be?)

If his amp has power I doubt it is a Fuse, or a circiut breaker becuase the amp is still getting power.

Check the ground wire and power wire. Make sure they are good to go. Does the amp even power up? If the amp powers up make sure you didn't pull the RCA connections out of the back of the headunit (I've done this before when I ran tight RCA wires). Other than that double check every connection again and if you still have nothing, then I'm at a loss.

^^^Um, he already said that the amp light was coming on, so I would say the amp is getting power. What type of speakers do you have? I have Planet Audios and I've had to replace them four times now because one of the voice coils (my speakers are dual voice coil) on one of the speakers went out. Since my speakers were connected in a series (one speaker was wired to the other directly, and not to the amp), they would not work because one of them was out. This could be the problem.

Amp powers a single fosgate sub.

if the gain on the amp is controlled by a knob, make sure you didnt accidentally turn it all the way down.

Okay, so the series thing is out of the question. Hummm....Let me see. Like everyone else said, check connections. Also, did you for any reason disconnect the head unit? I know this seems stupid, but maybe, if you did disconnect the HU, it restored factory settings and turned off the sub.

HU is stock, and I'm quite sure I never touched any controls on the Amp. I had just finished setting everything up today before it got dark, so tomorrow when its light maybe an error will be revealed.

I'm at a loss for any more solutions, but do let us know what you find.

just double check ur connections in the morning.....its either your power or its your rcas.......if not like they said check ur settings to make sure something wasnt accidentally touched.........after that id say its ur amp....

i just got done with 3 cars today, the 1st was 2 10" fosgate he's and an amp and amp kit........the second car was new amp and external eq......third car was all around speakers........2 amps......head unit.........and 2 12" alpine type r's......started at 10 this morning finished a lil before 10 tonight.......

I'm using high level inputs as said earlier.

I think I'll hook up a spare speaker to it first so as to rule out the subby being the problem.

How much was the 3rd cars bill?

If the amp powers up then a fuse, ground, or power wire will be out of the question. It is possible that rca's are the problem, but I doubt it. You have two inputs. If one is bad or connected improperly, the other channel will still input. I would check the connection between the amp and sub. It may be possible that the amp terminals broke at the solder weld during the move. If you didn't remove the sub from the box, I would ignore this. The other problem could be how you have the wires coming from the amp. I will suppose that it is in bridge configuration. If so, check to ensure that the correct left and right channel is being used. Some amps will turn the other two off when placed in mono. The other possibility would be a blown output. Since mono mode uses one ground and one possitive from seperate channels, a blown channel will result in no output. Try wiring the sub off of each channel individualy. This will tell you if there is a problem.

^^^^^how would you fix a blown channel? this is one of my problems <_<

Ok, maybe my internet connection will work this time.
The amp can fail at any place. However, if you loose one channel it will normaly be the inputs from too much voltage or your mossfets on the output. If you have a HU rated over the amps input range then check it out first. The mossfets are a small transistor made to handle heat dispersion. This is where the quality of the part comes in. A higher quality mossfet will disperse more heat. Here is a simplified pic of a amplifier. The red circles a input and outputs. The inputs tend to be a whole unit and will more than likely require a swap of the entire thing. The mossfets are transistors on a rail assembly and can be changed out seperately. Both are relatively cheap and cost as low as .60 cents.

haha u dont wanna know........full alpine type r speakers 12's, 6 1/2 components, 6x9's.....alpine head unit......shade over a grand i think.....he had the amps

Took the setup apart. Turns out 1 (ONE) of the speaker wires wasn't connected! STUPID STUPID STUPID STUPID STUPID STUPID STUPID STUPID STUPID STUPID STUPID.

lol rarely is it major.....i think 75% of the time its always something stupid, 15% of the time its something you gotta figure out, and 10% its just component failure...

I know. The feeling I got once I heard the bass again...unmistakable...its like a drug, I felt empty without it.
