View Full Version : gotta love mechanics still..
Out of cash, needed the wheel bearing done right away, i offered to do it but the only way (read as I had no cash thx) to get it done was to bring it to a specific shop to avoid any "screw up"
after telling the guy it was the front driverside wheel bearing that needed to be replaced............
$210 for the bearing, tack on another $135 or so for labor = $345
ouch, all for the $109-115 part, i really gotta get a credit card, I'd rather be screwed on interest
Only reason to complain, I'm still paying for the part out of that after xmas paycheck, about double what I planned on paying, whatever makes the broke dude more broke ;)

Damn, you got hosed. I'm so glad Overdrive is an engineer, and his dad is a mechanic. He opens up the shop on weekends to work on my car. :)

How can you guys say you gto screwed. These people have to make a living to. It's your choice to take your car to them or not. I mean do you think they can just charge minimum wage for the hourly rate, still pay for the building, the mechanics that work there and all the issurance and other bills that go with that, and make a living as well. Get serious guys, no all mechanics are shady and out to screw you over. It's your choice of where you take it or if you take you car in at all.

well no they're not all out to screw you, not ALL.. of em
I've known some good guys who are mechanics
I'm just ranting because I've gotta double for a part I could have done myself if I had the money, but unfortunately the past weeks have left me nickel and diming.
I'm not going off on the way mechanic's work but when the part is ridiculously overpriced and for their wages where disconnecting the battery and reconnecting it a half hour later run me an extra $30 for time I'm not all too happy
Like any other profession though, it's a job someone else isn't sure how to do so why not charge the crap out of it. Be it mechanic, comp technician, medical lab expert and so forth.
I hope by 40 to be a techdoctorthechanicplumbweldgardencarpenterdude
or at least a half assed one
