hello

i'm looking for my starter on my 2002 2.2 ecotec. you've probably answered this before in other posts, but maybe you can help me.

i can't find anything on google or ebay or anywhere else. where is it and what does it look like?

thanks for your help

Not exactly sure but most of the engines that I've ever worked on are on the bottom of the engine near the firewall connected to the transmission bell housing.

If i remember right, it's under the intake manifold.

It shouldnt be that hard to find, it should be attached to the bell housing should be easy to see on the 2.4 it is in the front 2.2 is probably the same, maby.

easier to find on a RWD eh? heh

At least on my 2.4 its at the front, right next to the trans. 2.2 should be similar.

right, but what does the solenoid drive? you get what i mean.... if you can point out the crank, the alternator, the tensioner, the idler pulleys, then you can pretty much pinpoint where the starter is.(even though it doesnt have a pulley )

maybe i'll stay outta the 4 banger forums <_<

The solenoid attaches to the starter. That's what engages the starter. It doesn't turn a pulley.

thanks everyone. as it turns out, i didn't need to pull it out. i think the problem fixed itself.

it was really strange what was going on...

i was away for school last year and i didn't take my car with me. i came back and started driving it. only, for some reason, it wouldn't start in the morning. i think partly due to the cold, and the almost dead battery, and possibly some rust in the starter?? anyway, all i would have to do to start it was open the hood, pull down on the belt to the far right of the engine, and it would start and be fine for the rest of the day. the next morning the same drama. but i took it for a drive and started it a bunch of times and now it seems to have gotten over its illness.

has that ever happened to anyone?

ididnt say it turned the pulley, i'm just saying play follow the pulleys and you'll see the damn starter.

you'd have to be an idiot to not know how to find a starter.

And for the final answer, the starter is right there under the intake heh. can just barely see the top of it in the pic.
