Dash & Doors Re-vinyled

Does anyone know what it would cost to have the dash and doors revinyled? I was going to do it on my own but seeing as I don't have time was wondering what I would be looking at in cost.

most likely a lot. it would be A LOT cheaper doing it yourself, i know that much. but price will depend on where you live and who you go to.

What I would do is pull the dash and door panels off and bring them in. Half the battle is getting them in and out. How hard is it to do it yourself. I can get the vinyl for around 75.00 - 150.00. Then I would need tools. I was looking at about 1500.00 for a shop to do it.

I would do the door your self, as far as the dash, I would just glass it. If you are going to have it out anyway, just spend the extra time and fiberglass. I do believe there is post in how-to or faq on how to vinyl the little oval shape part in the door. Let's see if I can't find it.

Thanks for the links. Think I am going to try to do the vinyl. Does anyone know where I could get good thin vinyl from?

Hey man, not a problem. I figured I could post all of that since Glowbot is a regular on here and usually pretty nice. Anyway, you could get vinyl from various places like Michaels or any fabric store, or an auto upholestery (sp?) store. I'm sure you can use the directions from wrapping the door and apply it to the dash. As far as various tips I've heard from others about the dash...Make sure when you pull all of the vinyl up, you get all of the foam that was remaining on the dash. I would pull the whole dash out of the car so you can sand, use razors, or some sort of stripping compound to get the foam and glue off. As far as an adhesive to use, I've heard of people using headliner glue, hot glue guns, superglue, and just about any other strong glues like epoxy or silicone. Does anybody have any other suggestions? Oh, and use a heat gun to stretch the vinyl out around corners and stuff so I doesn't lool like crap.

I am havin my dash and door panels done by a shop. They are also doing the center console and the two trim peices that go around the two small windows in the back (of a 2 door) for $1700 and thats in tweed. There is just alot of curves on our dash which makes it a hard project to do. And since it is so visable I want a pro to do mine. As far as a glue use 3M super 77... It is one of the best glues. You can get it a lowes or home depot. Make sure you use a strog glue like this or all your hard work will not last at all in the sun and heat. I know it costs about $10 a can but you get what you pay for.. and its bad ass glue. Also remember when you spray the glue down let it tack up for about a min before you put on the material. This will let the glue stick the best.

thats cool man. If I take all the parts out and stuff they should be able to do my car for 1200.00. Half the time is taking the stuff out. No need to pay labor on that.

I'd say if you can get your dash and doors off, I'd recommend doing it yourself. That 3M glue is really good, sprays out like liquid streamer kinda and holds really well (I did my headliner with the stuff and its great). If your recovering your dash i would highly recommend getting your vinyl from a marina or boat dealer because their stuff is UV proof, and you really don't want your dash to fade in the sun ( i think its about $15 a meter here in Canada), and there are different thicknesses available as well, I'd go with a thinner one so that it stretches and curves better. You might wanna wait till its warmer so the stuff stretches and goes on easier unless you got a nice heated garage to do it in. Good luck, and i'd love to see a how-to so i can do this one myself if its not too difficult.

only way I am going to do anything is if I have 1200.00 in the bank to have a pro do it if something goes wrong. lol Last thing I want is to have a dash out and my car looking like poop for a few months while I save up.

Smart man!!!!!!!! I like that you are tring to do it yourself first but have a backup plan... I tried to do mine but there is way to many curves and to hard to get it to lay right... Good luck

I tried to do it once in really think stuff. That does not work. I am going to do it again with some thin stuff. The only problem is I have no clue how the dash door comes apart. The rest is cake. Just need to let the vinyl sit in the sun when its 98 out and then mold it to the part. Think the project should cost no more then 300.00 end all be all. And 1 week no car lol. So I guess thats like 206.00 for the rental lol

i don't think it should take you that long. Pat had his dash out and painted and put back together in a couple days i think. And you won't have to wait for vinyl dye to dry before putting it back together. My headliner only took a couple hours to take out and do, and i put the glue right on the old headliner, then just put the material on after the glue got stickier for a few minutes. I know you'll have to take all the old vinyl off, but i don't think it will take a week.

I think pat said it took him 6 days. I went a extra day cus I had the extra doors.

This is why I want to get it all done again. The dye is ok and all but it was a temp fix to see if I liked it or not. Now I am going to fiber all my vents and stuff and redo my vinyl.

oh and I got the racing seats and a new wheel. Seats are being installed this week. Wheel is on hold till Andys can get their hands on it again.
