New to the N-body world. From the W-body world.
I have a 2000 Alero GLS. Black With the Two tone grey Interior.
Looking to make it a sleeper.
All stupid gold trunk badges gone.
I am seeking to make it with a little pep. Getting a reprogramed PCM, Front and Rear Strut Braces, Possibly sway bars, Performance TPS, Performance FPR (Fuel Pressure Regulator), Automatic Transmission Interceptor, mesh grill (to protect the radiator and fog lamps)and Cold Air Intake. All of this will be done when I find the time.
So far all I have done is replace the Lower Intake Manifold Gasket, Replace the transmission fluid and filter, tune up, Silverstar High and Low beam bulbs, Swaped out the Transmission Gear Selector with a Pistol Grip from a 1996 Cavalier ( I diddnt like the bland T-Handle), and made a kit to override the DRL's and Automatic lights (yes it is possible).
I have had it for a few months but never drive it. It is for fair weather use only.
Also looking to get rid of this stupid Chrome trim around the windows.. Is the black trim off the Grand Am interchangable.
No bling bling allowed here.

Wow.. some friendly creatures on here...
I'll have to ponder the strut bar. I have been looking for a deal on them.. They are so ungodly priced. I probably would pick up a set for $150.00.
As for the meantime I am in no rush to mess with it. The first thing I have to get is the PCM. No matter what anyone does to thier car it will operate the same as long as the PCM is factory programed.
I have noticed Digital Horsepower and that is probably where I will get one.
When it comes to be warmer out here I will go through the Maguires 3 step waxing process then snap some pictures for all to see. I'll have a spot on car domain.com
As for the window trim.. I am not sure if the quarter panel window on a Grand Am is the same as a Alero.
So far I like the feel of the N-bodys. I had a 1997 Cutlass Supreme and this seems like Oldsmobiles Two door replacement after they killed that car.
If you people would like Ill have to post on making a override switch for the Automatic Night lights. it took us about a hour to wire it and put some switches in the console. If any of you live close to the Flint, Michigan area we can do it for you for $60.00

I also have a black alero and that chrome piece around the window was bugging the sh*t out of me too. So what did i do you ask? I took my car to the body shop and had them paint it black. I'll get some pics up later this afternoon but I have to tell you, getting rid of that chrome strip was the best thing i ever did for my car. It looks so much better and it goes great with my tinted windows. I did this about 2 weeks ago and it cost me about 30 bucks for the paint and labor.

I was thinking of doing that.. but what if the paint peels off? Did you have them clearcoat it and everything?
I am certian it is black rubber/plastic on the Grand Am, making it chip and peel proof. That's why I was going to do that insted.
I absolutely HATE chrome. It looks like GARBAGE.
I am aiming for stealth/sleeper look. The only thing I can handle is the factory chrome wheels on it.. I wish they were alloy to be honest like on my old Cutlass Supreme.
Oh, By the way johny_boy32.. do you have more pictures of your car? that pic you have intrest me to take a peek for ideas if you dont mind? That is if your on cardomain.com?

Yeah they clearcoated it. It really looks good and I highly recomend it for that sleeper look your going for.

Alright, here are some pictures (http://invision.aleromod.com/index.php?showtopic=10363) of my interior. I havent take any pictures of the exterior in a while because its kinda going through a restoration project. I will get some new pics up when i get my wheels and springs back on and when the weather warms up a little bit. If you have any questions feel free to ask.

Welcome to the site..
There's already a "how to" on disabling the DRL's on here somewhere but any input you have will be great. :)

it's not just the DRL's I killed, it was the automatic lights that come on from dusk until dawn.

First off, welcome aboard...
second off, post up a how to on the automatic light control, that would be pretty sweet...With the DRL's disabled, you're only have to switchback to parking lights after the ALS comes on.

Welcome to the boards. B)
Just a heads-up: If you install a re-programmed PCM done by DHP, you'll have no need for an autotrans interceptor or a shiftplus.
Oh, and for $4.50 worth of vinyl pinstriping, you can cover up that window chrome. It would take a WELL trained eye to catch it, even in person. Not only that, but it's also non-permenant, so you can return it to stock before you trade it in.

yeah but the vynil will probably have bubbles (if you don't take your time) because the strip isnt straight...obviously it curves around the window. And i doubt someone would care that a crappy looking chrome strip dissapeared from around the window...let alone notice its gone.
