I found this for everybody, it is a chart of tint laws by state and Candadian provinces
The numbers are backwards though. It tells how much light you can allow thru
i.e. 70% means 30% tint
80% means 20% tint
etc
tint laws by US States and Canadain Provinces (http://www.gilafilms.com/auto/car_tint_laws.html)
thanks for the info Redog, i'm going to get my windows tinted sometime this weekend  what percent are yours? Also, have you had any trouble w/ cops reguarding your tint?

Actually Ken, you got that bass-akwards. 70% means 70% light visibility through the windows. When you put 40% tint on (as i do), the light visibility drops down to something in the 20's. So when it says 70%, it means 70% tint.

Also, in Florida, insurance companies are not required to cover your accident if it is proven you had illegal tint on the front windows.

I am not sure if I am going to do tint on my car, becuase in VT, you can only have tint on the back windows, but you can have it as dark you want or any color.

I have 15% all round
I did get one ticket for it and I've had a lot of cops (only in the suburbs) giving me looks.
I just roll the windows down and it's no problem. If it's daytime, I just open the screen or the sunroof all together. My interior is very light so I can get away with a darker tint, sometimes

usually i can pull it off too with the neutral interior, not so dark tint, but it always seems that i get nabbed when my car is dirty...i guess it makes it look darker or something.

The ex's car was black with black interior and with 15% tint it was dark. Looked like 5%

Legal PA laws are 30% or higher

70%
The percntage that they use means the amount of light that is loud to pass through the window. When you put 30% tint on, in theory you are only letting 30% let pass through. It is actually lower than that because cars come factory with a little bit of tint on them.
So when the law says 70% it means that 70% of light has to pass through the window and when you have 30% tint on the windows, you're only letting 30% through, therefore being illegal...makes sense?

i live in mi i put 7 in of vinal on the front. i tinted my back 3 limo and the front 2 35 i have dice hanging from my miror and neons. i also think you can have a car that is two low.
I'm going like... this weekend to get my tint... 20% on all windows + back windshield, and a 20% strip on the top of my windshield. My friend who I work with has 6% tint on all his windows except the windshield... that is insanely dark, i can't believe he hasn't gotten ticketed yet...

yeah i've driven a few cars that have 5% all the way around and it is entirely too dark...you have to put your windows down to do anything..

For Ontario it says "vague" for the front windows so I guess that means they don't really know what percent. I've gotten talked to about mine once when I was stopped for having license plate covers and I have 20% all around.
Man even tho it says 30 or 35% They never really care anymore here
