Anybody know what the best steering box swap is? Want something with a faster ratio that would be a bolt in. Thanks.

Want to reduce steering wheel travel to improve slalom / gymkhana times.

I've heard of people doing this with many Japanese cars, but good luck with finding a kit for an Alero.

Gymkhana is a slalom competition- best time wins. The steering is awful slow with the standard GM electronic system. Didn't know if anyone knew if any other GM boxes would swap out, maybe from a Grand Prix GTP, etc.

I would think a small car's box would be better

Try suspension upgrades

As far as I know all the alero's have hydraulic steering not elcetronic.
as far as changes go for quicker steering I dont belive there is a different ratio rack thats a direct fit. only way to really find out is to compair off other gm's with different ratio racks to our stock one

Factory steering gear ratio for the Alero is reported to be 14.7:1
Lets see if we can find an available rebuild kit that is tighter with a similar model.

i havent really looked, but on my old dirt track car i just ordered a steering quickener from summit...mounts inline with the steering shaft prior to the gearbox....like i said tho...i havent actually went out side and looked at the alero to see if it would work.....suspension, and swaybars would be first mods for that kind of racing,...and lotsa practice to find out how much you can hang the ass end out and drift it a lil between cones....

on a side note....last time c&d had the alero in there track times and info...the alero could hang with numerous italian sports cars...so its also a matter of learning your skills, and the cars limits.....
im sure you know all this though....just trying to help
