i was driving and had to come to a stop, then i noticed my rpm dropped from 750 rpm to a little bit less than 500.
then i parked it to see what it would do when i turned the a/c on, i knew it would drop but not from 750 to 250 and almost cutting off.
could someone please tell me what the problem could be.

My car is doing this also but its not dropping that low, my Uncle told me to try using some fuel injector cleaner for a couple tanks of gas. I recently had my fuel filters changed but did not have the injectors cleaned so if this continues after a couple more trips to the gas station I will have my injectors cleaned.

My old Honda Accord did this too, it was due to dirty fuel filter which caused my fuel pump to go out.

i had a problem similiar to this. the idle air control motor was so dirty it wasn't reacting as fast as it should. i bought a $3 can of brake parts cleaner, took out the motor and it took like 5 minutes to clean. it was all black and carboned up. i have a 3400 though, i dont know where the idle air is on your car, but it will be on the intake somewhere by the throttle body. its a small motor, you should be able to tell by the case of it that its a electric motor inside

LAst summer i hade the same problem, turned out to be a bad cooling fan, when the car would heat up (ie stopping, or turning on the AC) the RPM would drop for a few seconds then return to normal.

It was the load on the altenator, when it was trying to start the ceased fan.

You might want to check it out.... easy to do, just watch the fan kick in and see it the RPM dropps.

Have you had the Ecotec computer recall upgdate done? I had my car in for service a year ago and they done this update. I think it helps with idle issues and some more stuff. But yours may be something else.. Keep us updated on this.

depending on how many miles you have but EGR's are cheap and would probably be more beneficial to just buy a new one.

Good thinking, but the Ecotec has no EGR system. I thought it was weard at first when I read this on the net so I looked in my GM service manual and sure enough, it does not have one. It also does not have a Mass Air Flow sensor.
