Led Dome Light

I just got my shipment of super bright white LEDs from Oznium (and yes, I clicked thru the banner here). These are wicked bright as promised. I put the first 6 together to replace my dome light and it's beautiful :wub: . OK, well it's nice at least, and now it matches the rest of my interior LEDs. It only took me about a half hour in front of the TV to solder together, LEDs are so easy to work with.

Now I've got white lights in the interior when the doors are open or the dimmer switch is on all the way to light up the interior so I can actually see where I'm stepping, read something or find something, and blue for the interior while driving. Don't worry, I wouldn't post without pix...

Here's the light I made myself vs the old one. It's nice cuz all 6 bulbs can be re-adjusted to focus the light a bit in 6 different directions, even though the cover diffuses it somewhat.

sweet, I'm gonna have to do that soon, i have like 78 red LED's just chillin in my garage lol.
YOu didn't have to hook up any resistors???

Nope, 3 in series are safe for 12 volts, and then I did the other 3 in series again and ran the 2 sets in parallel. In my first pic the top row are the first set of 3 and the bottom row is the other set. The little cross at each end is just so it fits around the clips to hold the bulb in.

for the little cross, and the wires what kind of wire did you use?

Rev, the wires are just the leads of the LEDs, that stuff bends really easily, but bend slowly as that metal succumbs to metal fatigue very easily. They're about 1.5 inches long so there's lots to work with, no extra wires required. For my other LEDs I used 22 AWG copper wire (standard 25 pair phone wire), it is an outstanding wire to use to extend those leads.

yeah mine looks different, because I have the rear map readers. I'm sure I can find a way to make it work

very nice. now i know how to do mine. :lol: every post i saw about led-ing the dome light, were all different from mine. finally someone who has the same!

i took my old light bulb out, broke it with pliers, cleaned out the glass, and attached my LEDs to the ends of the bulb, so that it fits in like the original bulb did. Works great and obviously fits perfectly
