got the box for 2 12's (just need subs and wiring kit)

i have the wiring harness and everything from crutchfield, it's just that i MIGHT be trading the alero for a ranger, so it's all on my bed right now, god i want to put it in

anyways my question

the amp wiring kit, should i spend 100 bucks on it from circuit city, or will the 20 / 30 dollor one from walmart work fine?

I've heard that wal-mart skimps on there wire. Meaning it says 4 guage but you get 5 guage or says 8 gauge and you get 9 guage. Check out parts express they have some decently priced amp kits. Also I've heard good things about knuconcepts.com but have never purchased anything form there.

Cerwin vega makes mostly home audio. I've heard some of there older stuff. They made the Stroker sub. Badass sub back in the day. I think they still have a following for them today. They had an adjustable cone very neat sub. They were the loudest sub I'd ever heard til a couple of years ago when company's started making subs strickly for spl.

I just bought the $100 amp power kit from circuit city today....but its because it offers more than just a single amp hookup...it also comes with distribution block to either run multiple amps or additional accessories, and unless your doing that Im pretty sure you could get by with the cheaper 4 guage kit.

With just that amp you can get by with an 8 guage kit.

This is the wiring kit I will be getting, hey look $24.64 and it comes with 4 gauge wire a distro block and more 8 gauges for ground and power. This is more than adequate for my 620 watt eclipes amp I am getting.

read the rest of it VTOLDS, its 5 guage and 9 guage ur getting....check the specs on the kit

I knew it. It gives you a 4-8 guage distribution block but 5 and 9 guage wire. And the distribution block isn't fused. I would highly suggest getting a fused distribution block.

no one cares if it is actaully 5 gauge and 9 gauge its still rated to hold 1400 watts.

The distribution block doesnt need a Fuse, the wire itself has a 100 amp fuse, so what would the purpose of having 2 fuses be?

Everytime you change size in a wire it needs a fuse. That main fuse is protecting the 4 guage wire. You put a 100 amp fuse on a 8 guage wire and it shorts out your going to start a fire in your car. 8 guage wire needs about a 60 amp fuse max. You need a fused distribution block to protect the 8 gauge wire.
And true 4 guage wire has about 1000 watt capability. Putting 1400 watts on there is strictly marketing. Sorta like cheap amps saying they'll do 1000 watts when in reality they might do 400.

I fully agree with the previous post. A distribution block should have a fuse on each wire as well as one on the main wire. Your main wire may be rated for up to 100 amp of pull (combining the two distributed lines) but each smaller gauge wire will reduce its max rated pull. If one of the 8 gauge wires burns through due to excessive amperage, then the main wires 100 amp fuse won't blow untill it is too late.
The rating of a wire kit varies between the length of your wire, size of the wire gauge, and sufficient fastening hardware. The longer you wire is, the lower your maximum amperage is for the line. Be very carefull when purchasing by the marketed value. This is normaly the max amount the kit can produce. It may contain a 14 foot wire but only rates the max at 5 feet. The other issue is how you ground and fasten the wires. A 4 gauge wire cut down to fit into a 8 gauge fastener will reduce the amount of amperage that it can produce. The same is true of the ground. This may seem like a petty issue, but try explaining to your insurance why they should pay for a electrical fire caused by aftermarket installations. Look in the fine print and you will see that it is not covered.

I gave a co-worker my guitar because i don't play it like 3 weeks ago

as an IOU he's giving me his old wiring kit, all i need is a in line fuse block, i can get that anywhere, so iam good on the wiring kit

and then i put it under the dash, behind the radio, i guess it would be like in the center kick panel area, i don't know what you would call it, but i stickied the speaker, and stickied it up there, seems to work fine
