sounds like your rotors may be warped. This is very common on the Alero.

not sure, but it probably is. You will have to goto the dealer and find out.

Sorry to say but even if the dealer does fix it, it will come back again. I had mine do this 2 times (dealer fixed it) until I replaced the brake pads and rotors myself with NON GM parts...No problems since.

The rotors Dealers use SUCK dont have a dealer do it. Either do it yourself, or a your local mechanic.

unless your a poor college kid like me, and want it done for free, then, have the dealer do it

Take it to a dealer under warranty. They'll fix the rotors for you. I think they have to give you pads if the rotors are warped, too. I got my rotors turned and got new pads under warranty, anyway. Just keep bringing it in when they warp. It's free. Once you're out of warranty you might want to switch out your rotors and pads, but don't worry about it 'till then. I just put aftermarket ones on mine, no upgrades. I don't think it's worth the extra cost for the upgrades.

If you decide to pay for them by yourself from a local mechanic I paid $330.00 CDN for all four corners new pads and rotors. That was about the fourth quote I got. so look around.

yea.. warped rotors... take it to the dealer if you are in warrenty, ask them. If you dont do a lot of highway driving then dont worry about getting them done soon, warped brakes are allmost more of a nuisance then a problem. Dont panic.
IF your dealer wont cover it, get a shop to TURN the rotors... or machine them, as this is all the dealer would do for ya anyways...

If they are REALLY bad and or pads are wore out, or if your rotors are under spec, THEN save and get better front rotors, and stock pads.
Pads for me ( i get a discount at local autoparts stores) for a Stock set is like 20-45 bucks DEPENDING on what car they're for
I got more expencive pads.. they were 110 candian... regular like 230... haha

Changing the pads and rotors is about as easy as changing your oil. No joke! It is THAT easy! $20-$25 for each front rotor and the ceramic pads (very little brake dust on wheels) are around $40. Got 'em from Autozone. I recently did mine in about an hour. Both sides. Have done them twice in the past 3 years. Still got the rears that were on it when I bought it. :thumb:

Eh, technically they're not "warped" rotors... it's just that they tend to wear unevenly. If you went at it with a micrometer, you'd find runout variations all over the place. Not warped in the traditional sense of "warped" (or "warped" like my personality ;))

Anyway.. I remember when N-cars got their upgrade in what, 00? or 99? There was a TSB issued to all dealers about properly installing the lug nuts on the rotors... apparently (somehow) the N-cars are more susceptible to problems with uneven wear if the lug nuts aren't tightened in the right order (5-star pattern).. especially if they do 5 in a circle... premature brake failure.

There was a video and a shim kit that got sent out to all the dealers... and in the end, it was not going in the proper order :) LOL
