Hey guys,

got a guy who is going to powder coat my rims for me for $150 is this a good price (plus I have to pay to have the tires taken off)

What colour should I do them? i've got a white, 04, 4 door. It's all stock, only real plans are to tint the windows, clear the corners and smoke the headlights.

I was thinking of some kinda smoke type color for the rims, or maybe gun metal. what colour do you guys think would look best on a white car

Here's hyperblack... but diff rims on a black car... but you get the idea... it would be sweet as hell. :)

And these rims are flatter, so the pic isn't the greatest example, but it's kind of like a really dark silver... kinda...

This is a better example

You wont be able to do hyper black.. hyperblack is more of a chrome black than it is black... Good luck to you tho.. I have my stock rims refinished in Metallic gun metal.. they look pretty good IMO.. cept Im not gonna pay to have new tires put on em this year so Im looking for a cheaper alternative like an aftermarket set or rims and tires to tie me over.. lol

^ is gunmetal the closest to hyperblack possible? I thought gunmetal was that brownish metal color...

At least in pics hyperblack doesn't look chrome-like at all... it actually looks more like powdercoating to me than anything else..

I'm a chrome guy, so my vote would be to find a chrome like color (if he has one). The hyperblack would definitely look nice though.

Which reminds me, I hate the blacked out rim "fad". Also, the "I removed my hubcaps to make it more custom" fad.

unless I didn't realize it until wintertime, and everyone just took their real rims off to protect them from the winter salt and junk, yes they do.

I swear I've seen it in the middle of summer too though, at first I thought they lost a hubcap, or two, or three, apparently all of them.

Seems to be an import thing though.

Dark wheels have been out since the wheels on automobiles were wooden. It's no "fad," it's just a selection that has become more popular in recent years. It's because the days of chrome trim and 3 spoke wheels are gone and some people just think it looks better than a flashier color like white, silver, or chrome. I have a Black GAGT and I think it looks much better with dark wheels on it. It had silver wheels on it for 11 years. The wheels on it now were silver for 2 years before I painted them.

Cheesy picture, but it's the only one I had that was small enough to fit without scrolling all over the place to see whole pic.

thinking about spraying mine with that wheel paint at the auto stores.. did a photoshop here...

Thoughts on this?

The paint is Dupli-Color HIGH PERFORMANCE Wheel Coating... Track Tested

Improved resistance to brake dust, chemicals, cleaning solvents, heat and chipping. Highly reflective metallic, Fast Dry

its like a dark dark grey with shiny metallic flakes..

That wheel paint is what I used. You have to be careful with it, as it is not extremely impact resistant, but it looks good, costs $5 a can, and is pretty easy to clean and doesn't seem to be affected by much, besides the occasional whck of a wrench or something.

I have a tan colored car. Whats a good color for the rims?

ShortysTRM

Honestly, just about any color seems like it would work. Bronze, any of the dark silvers, black, bright silver...I just doubt white would look very good.

IMO, black cars, silver cars and white cars can get away with pretty much any color rims the driver/owner wants. White-on-White would look pretty hot though.
