If it doesn't go here, can a mod move the thread.

Ok, tommorow i plan on installing some 6 inch red neons under the dash of my alero.

The neons have connecters on them that connect to the inverter, and the inverter to the cig. lighter. I will be cutting the cig lighter connector off, and wiring the + to a toggle, and the Neg wire tapped into ground.

Before i do this, i was wondering if it was all possible to tap into the + and - of the Cig ligter on the passenger side. If so, i don't have a multimeter so could someone tell me which is - and +.

Also, when i run my amp, i need a remote turn on wire to the amp right? what wire should i tap into for that? When i installed my radio, there was a spare orange wire comming from the connector i think it was an Illumination wire, the HU still lights up at night, could i tap into that? or should i just tap into the 12+ HU wire?

And another question, sorry lol....on my remote wire, i want to add a toggle switch, so when i see a cop, i can just kill the remote, thus killing the amp, thus saving me from a ticket. Will this cause any long term damage to my amp.

Thanks for any help guys.

1. From what I have heard (and plan to do) run your neons off of your cubby light wires, supposed to be much easier to do.

2. I too am debating where to run my remote turn on for my amp. I would just use the HU power wire if I were you.

3. I don't think it will cause any dammage whatsoever. Think about it, what is different between flipping the kill switch and just shutting off your car/radio?

I guess its cooler to use a swtich then just turn off the radio... or the volume down...
Oh well cops here dont care about the system... lol
Yes its ok to put a switch on the remote wire, do you have an aftermarket deck or a stock one? if you have an aftermarket deck, use the remote turn on wire thats included with the deck, usually a light blue wire, but it will be marked, if you dont have an aftermarket deck, use something that turns on when the deck is on, something that gets RAP the deck would be the best place.
its ok to use the passenger lighter... when you look at the lighter the wire that connects to the END of the lighter is the + , I think its a Red wire... but i cant remember, if your in doubt get a power tester, and check the wires. you can get one for like 2 bucks and they are good to have around when wiring things up.
You can run the amp remote wire from anything because it only usues like a point of an amp of power, but from the HU is the best place.

Would his neons draw to much power on the cubby light wires? Don't know what they draw. Maybe have the cubby light wires switch a relay if they draw alot of power.

Ive got 2 neons(10" and 12") and strobes wired into the cig lighter wires.
Red/orange is + , black is neg. I've also got a strobe bar wired into the passenger cig lighter, and a switch where the lighter would plug into. Same colors apply. I've had all 4 running at once and nothing has gone wrong.

the cig wires are just as easy to get too as the cubby wires, so I wouldnt call it easier.

you spent two hours on it?? ur just installing them under the dash right? and if ur unsure which wire is positive just touch each wire to a grounded, whichever sparks is ur 12 volt lol mah im jk......and u dont need a meter, go to a autostore and they make test lights for like 3 bucks.......

i was taking my time as to not mess anything up, had to get anew toggle switch cuz i broke the old one, and i had to drill the holes for the neons....

pull the radio out and everything, i wasn't in a hurry so i spent bout an hour and a half on it, i mean it took 30 mins to do, but an hour or so trying to troulble shoot it

still havn't figured out what it is, perhaps because i cut out the inline fuse that was int he cig. ighter adapter that came with it maybe

i have the deck, with that 80dollor harness, i tapped the + to the red wire which i assumed was the 12+ and the - to the black wire, no dice, and there were two black wires, and neither worked, nor did touching the - to a ground on the car, so i thought perhaps the 12+ is faulty, but the radio comes on, so that orange wire i mentioned earlier (illumination) that isn't being used on anything, i tried thatnothing.....

so iam going to try the cig lighter thing, if that doesn't work imma be pissed.....

Like I said before, there have been many people on here that suggested the cubby light as the easiest solution for wiring any neons/cathodes/LEDs.

Since the cubby light only comes on with the headlights, and headlights are only on when it is dark, and you will only be able to see the neon when it is dark outside, why not wire them up to something that will only let them be on at the times you can see them?

You can add another switch that would have to be toggled to turn them on or off, but if you ever leave them on, no biggie because once you shut your car off, the lights will go off too (unless you leave your headlights/parking lights on. This means no accidentally drained battery just from the neons.

If you hook it up to the passenger cigarette lighter that one I believe is switch with the vehicles ignition so when car is on it is on when off it is off so light would turn off anyway. But either one is a good choice!

nope pass cig lighter runs into the reg cig lighter. So its a constant power source. I've never had a problem with leaving mine on, kinda hard to miss bright red lights glowing in the dark.
