I'm doing my usual uneventful drive home tonight, and all of a sudden I start to hear a hum sound comming from the front... then a clonk shortly after.

5 Seconds later my Trac Off, ABS, and Service Vehicle Soon light come on.

I can't wait to find out what happened now... probably something expensive.

Any ideas on what broke?

Thanks,

shockz

Oh... here's a pic:

Hmm... a hub.

I'll search for that. Never really heard of that.

Is it a controller/computer/sensor for the Anti Lock brakes?

I think the traction control uses the same sensors as the ABS. Great.

Thats probably what it is then.

Thanks for the info :)

yea its ur hub, either the actual hub goes bad or the sensor inside.......the face that u heard noises and felt crap points me to believe the actualy hub went bad, id get it fixed asap compared to just the sensor going bad as it isnt as dangerous to drive on....

Alright. I'm calling my dealer right now.

I should have it in by the end of the day.

I wonder what would happen if I actually drove this car like a madman... its not like I hit every pot hole, go off roading, and hit every curb I can find.

I've got 3300 on my extended comprehensive/complete warranty. So this should be an easy fix.

It was a hub... it's being replaced under warranty with a load of other stuff they found wrong with it.

What else did they find wrong?

Yup, either your whole hub or it could be just your wheel bearings thierselves. I got the same problem right now. Taking it apart this weekend.

how many miles you got on your car? mine went up at like 80,000 miles and i was told it's a common maintaince problem for that milage by my mechanic. But if your car is still under warrenty i dont think it should have gone up so soon.

- Transmission Growling in park on an incline (not covered)
- Transmission while in drive causing rough idle (not covered)
- Broken Front Right Strut
- Broken Front Right Strut Bushel
- Heater fan fixed
- Scratches on front left window caused by door assembly (not covered and not fixing)
- Rack and Pinion (not covered)

I pay 80 extra bucks a month for this "comprehensive warranty" for 5 years, 60,000 miles and they say this stuff isn't covered, while when I get out the book and information regarding the warranty... it says it is. Were making a call to GM and Classic Chevy (where we bought the car) and are asking whats going on. Were getting it fixed at Classic Chevy so they better wake up and take another look at our warranty. Only thing that wouldn't be covered is the scratches on the window... but I can live with that.

let me know how long the install goes, i need one too

fortanatly my college has 2 automotive programs (asep and general) and i got them to scan it with a tech 2 to tell me which side

funny thing is, my friend is having the same problem with his vette, and it was also the front left wheels speed sensor.

Oh it is... the dealarship repair people say it isn't but my warranty papers say it is (which are also from the dealer). If you want I can scan whats covered and not into my computer and post it.

They are just giving us the run around... I'll get it sorted like always.

I can't wait till its fixed, b/c I still like this car even after all the problems its given me.

Hey guys,

I know the Alero is bad for hubs i have put two on my now. The other day my ABS light went back on and this time the dealership change the wiring harness from the hub to the computer.

It solved the problem for me. He said that the wire is easily exposed to the rain and salt in the winter time and that it corrodes very quickly. Didn't cost me anything either so i was happy.

But i thought that i would just let you know what they did incase it helps anyone else.
