I didnt even have to use silicone, theres was still enough of it in there to seal it good enough that i've never had fog in my headlamps. I just heated the lamp assembly back up and pushed the plastic covers in. But as someone else said, it only cost 2 bux so may as well.

Hope u have pateince. Its a pain. And can be messy too. You will have to get the light nice n hot before it gives way. Use a small screwdriver or something to help the prying process. (u'll wanna use the screwdriver on the UNDERSIDE of the light, because it will leave markes and dents in the plastic that look like crapola.
I didnt use any silcone etc.... just re-heated and stuck trogether. I havent had any leaks...but then again the car dosent see rain or snow.

don't forget our headlights aren't totally sealed anyway, make sure you clean out the little breather hose, there's always spiders living in there. Good luck

i just did mine last night and it took me about 20 minutes per light.. pretty easy if u ask me. heat gun and screw driver is all i used.. i kept most the silicon on there so i could just re-seal it with my heat gun. everyoen says patience is important, but 40 minutes for both lights seemed fast to me. i think my banner for my car club took more time :/

^ That's gotta be a record. It took me like 6 hours for both (including drying time for new silicon, eating dinner, and watching a Friends re-run.. lol). Depending on how old your car is, you might wanna get rid of all the old silicon and just use new when you put them back together. A few extra minutes is worth making sure you don't have any water getting in there, imo.

Wow! Um... maybe someone already had the lights apart for something...? That's crazy.. mine weren't hard, either... but wow.. I'm jealous I lost 5 hours of my life!!

Ya, just take ur time and u'll be fine. And, DONT touch the chrome bezel!! (the peice inside) grab around edges, or from the back.

But if you're like me and you DID touch the bezel, just do a lil spit shine with a terry cloth or something like that. Shined it right up.. lol

What part of the headlight did you paint (for those who painted theirs)?

I touched all over that chromey thing and had no peoblems cleaningit. I even got the Gm silicone crap on it and it comes right off with no hassle if you use a citrus cleaner. :)
aleroman>>8<< most people who paint, paint the whole chrome thing (bezel). If I decide to paint mine, tho I will only pain the front edge of it. :)

Thanks Smlz, I have an extra left side headlight I'm going to take apart and wanted to know so I could paint the right piece. But it won't be Bronzemist. Oops, I think I leaked out a little info.

The painted bezels look good on *some* cars. I like it on youngblood, molson (I think his are done) and jackal2000's look good. I thought about doing that on mine but I don't think it would look good. Anyone know of another ruby red car with painted bezels?
smlzalero
04-08-2005, 03:36 AM
^Nope, Ive never seen it. i don't like the whole bezel painted... on any color. Plus it defeats the whole reflective purpose. I'm thinking about doing mine to match the body, but just the front surface and leave the inside and edges chrome..

I color-matched painted bezels would look hot on a darker blue car like Albino's, hopefully he'll let me paint his when we get his headlights tore down. It's totally up to him though, his car....

After doing mine on my '04 i kind of actually wish I had of reused the silicon that was already on it, I honestly think it would have sealed better. but we will.. no leaks yet but its not even 24 hours old and no rain today lol

I had to remove all the silicone, someone had changed the lenses and used regular silicone. Both mine had moisture before. I used "Goop" automotive glue on 1 and have had no problems with it. Didn't have enough "Goop" for the other one used outdoor silicone and get a tiny bit of moisture only after washing.

I didn't used enough silicone to reseal one of the headlights and when it rained it fog right up. I had to take the headlight all a part. A real pain in the ass. I resealed it and I made sure to use more then I thought I would need. No problems and looks very good. So make sure to use more then u need.
