Those Dang Mirror Lights Anyway...

Does anyone know what bulb to use for the map lights in the rear view mirror? I broke one of them trying to get it out, and I can't figure out what to use. I tried a 194 bulb, but it doesn't seem to work ... maybe I put it in wrong. Sylvania's light replacement guide says it takes a 212-2, but that is completely wrong. If it makes a difference, I've got a 2002, GL, 2.2L, 2 door.

And if you do know the right bulb to use, how can you get the old one out without breaking it? (There's just not enough room to grip it and pull it out of there other than a pliers, which is what I used when I broke it)

I do have some horrible news.

Someone hit my driver door. The door has a big dent in it. Sadness... :cry:

I've been trying to accomplish the same thing but dont want to break the damn things. I'm pretty certain that they are 194 bulbs, but i've also heard the vary depending on the year of the car. I have a 2002 3.4L and they look like 168/194 to me. An idea i just thought of and seems like it may work (cant wait to try it when i get home) is to take a piece of fishing line or string, loop it like you're going to tie a knot, slip it over the bulb towards the back, tighten your knot and pull out. Who know's, it could work, hoping that they are 194 cause i have the blue led's ready to go in. :beerchug:

In my car (a 2000 GLS), they are the same size as the dome light bulb.

I took a little metal wire and bent it into a hook and fed it over top of it and pulled the two ends down to take it out. Push up on what holds the bulbs in place or these will come out too! The bulbs are 212-2 and I recommend replacements from http://autolumination.com/festoon.htm

I got the bulbs out with a very small screwdriver basically just wedging them out from the back. I can faintly see the bulb number and it says 192. I put my blue 194 led's in and damn are they bright, to get them to work though, i had to squeeze the metal clamps a little closer to eachother so that the metal would make contact with the metal pieces on the bulb. Definately buy LED's for these bulbs, you won't be disappointed.
