Manual Tranny For '99 Alero

sure the getrag 287 or 282 will bolt right up.

The hard (read expensive) part is getting all the linkage, mounts, half-shafts, bell housing, etc to work, to say nothing of the ecu :rolleyes:

If you want a manual tranny car your best bet was to buy one.

it would be a costly project but doable.

not sure is a 2000 ECU would work in a 99

apparently the only thing that needs to be done to the ecu, post 99, is delete the auto tranny code.

for what? the bare tranny (for a 282) is about 400. the linkage, pedals, cluthc resv., shafts, mounts, etc are all extra. the PCM flash is currently non-existent unless you talk to someone like DHP or JBP and get a deal worked out with them. Realistically, if you do all the work, your looking at a grand easy for just the parts. Now you can save a sh!t load if you get the parts from the local wrecker but you are dealing with iffy parts and since the drive train is SUPPOSED to be dropped through the bottom of the car its kind've a bitch to get it at at the JY. i would buy as much as possible thru the dealer or gmpartsdirect. that costs more but trying to find a 5-spd alero in a junkyard is like trying to find a needle in a hay stack

My friend wants to sell me a 94 Berretta 5-spd with the 2.3l HO for a grand, think it's worth it? I could use it as a parts car, would that tranny work for my 2000 2.4l?

well if it is truly a VIN A, with a confirmed getrag, not sure they came in 94?? and it runs then it would be a pretty decent find. I would mod that and not the 'ho though. If you do decide to pick up the beretta, it will be aGTU if its a HO, then let me know I may want so parts :grin: or if you get it and need some advice let me know as well :thumb:

the 1994 Z26 was standard with the HO and the Getrag 5-speed (only about 900 were made). Most were with the optional 3100 and Automatic.

The 90-93 GTZ was the other available with the HO and 5-speed combo.

92-94 models have the revised final drive ratio (3.94) which will give better acceleration than the older ones (3.61)

The GTU was a V6 and made in 88 and 89

I know the GTZ, not the GTU, my bad on that, with HO and getrag was also avail in 89. I could've swore the 91's also had the better gears/?

91 was only the W41 cars that had the better gearing. And those are virtually nonexistent anymore.
