My 2000 Alero 2.4litre is getting to 93000 kms and I was thinking bout getting the coolant flush/fill at the dealership because it says to change coolant every 100,000kms. But since I've only owned my car since 55,000kms I don't have a clue if its been changed before.

So is there a way to test the Dexcool coolant to see if it is near the end of its effective life?? Also would changing the thermostat while I'm at it be wise?, since they have to take the thermostat out to do the coolant flush.

yes, there is a way to test it yourself, you need a hydrometer, and a ohm meter i forgot how to use the ohm meter. i'll post it tonight on how to test it with an ohm meter

yea im back, hears how you test it forget about the ohm meter, you need to use a volt meter, stick the postive end in the coolant resevoir but dont touch the actual coolant if the reading is .03 volts or more your coolant is pretty bad, its on it way to becoming acid, ooh and make sure i have a really good ground and test it twice when the engine is cold and when the engine is WARM, now dont try to open your resevoir cap when its hot. and dont tell me that im responsible if you get hurt. or if you dont want to do the WARM test just do the cold test. then use the hydrometer, it will acutally tell you is it bad or not. i hope this help you
