Today my parents freaked out and made me put the emblems back on and made me fix my clear corners back and take out my cathodes and I didnt even get a picture or anything. They said that it was all illegal and pointless and that the clear corners and cathodes would affect my driving and that taking the emblems off affected insurance and crap it was all a bunch of lies but whatever so now im pissed....I dont know if I will be back on considering my parents wont let me do anything anyway.

haha, my dad is a little tense like that, and he has a right to be, he did buy the car, but just do what i do, work on your car when your parents aren't home, or go to a friends house, and dont let your parents near your car

ive got the same deal. good thing mine only care if im spending money so the cheap stuff is fine. itll be a scary day when they find out about the intraxes and the kyb's. ill probably have to run the exhaust and rims past them since those are kind of noticeable mods. sucks that your parents dont understand.

depending on how much you have to rely on them you could just tell them to deal with it since you paid for it but pissing parents off is not a good thing.

i also own my car and am on my own insurance and they flip out...
i was washing my car one day and i had the hood open to wipe stuff down and my dad saw the intake and strut bar through the window and ran out....had to explain stuff for about 20 minutes....

That's crazy that you can't do any of that stuff... Before I was of legal age the only thing i was ever complained at about were things that woke people up at night LOL! Tomorrow I'll be getting a new cat-back made for my dad's Crossfire (2004, 2500 miles on it). I guess it's a good thing that everyone's parents aren't the same.

my parents dont kno anything about cars so they dont really care what i do...i disabled my Daytime running lights and dad kinda was mad about that cuz he's afraid its gonna effect my warranty...totally not gonna. and he thinks my HIDs are WAY too bright(they are but they look hot!!! ) and he thinks the tint is gonna get me killed or that im gonan run over someone cuz its so dark...lol!!
my mom's just like 'whatever. its ur car, u paid for it, u pay for insurance, do whatever you want to it as long as u pay for it'...
dad's just oold school...i mean he IS 62 :P

You should talk to them again, or just ignore them. It's your car and you pay for everything so they don't have a right to complain about your car. In early summer 2003 I was driving a 1995 Accord and I spent about $4500.00 in one month. My car came home with rims, coilovers, new lights all around, wings west lip kit, and a few minor engine mods. The summer before I spent about $2000 on the stereo and alarm. My parents thought I was crazy and were a little upset but would never tell me to take stuff off because it was my car and I paid for everything. You have to tell your parents that it's yours and you can do what you want with it. I was still living at home when I had the Honda and was working full time.
Alero04
04-18-2005, 10:37 AM
exactly man. its ur car in everyway. too bad for them if they dont like it. ur insurance isnt gonna go up if u take ur emblem off...like comeon!
i do all those mods again and if they dont like it, tell them to pay for your car

Sometimes, parents are just being parents. I haven't lived with my parents for over 6 years now and they still give me a hard time when I buy something new for my car. Their resoning is a little different though....they would prefer that i save my money for a house rather than pissing it down the drain in a car...
misslindseysue
04-18-2005, 10:56 AM
So, you still live with them? They are your parents. Maybe you could explain what you want to do first and convince they it's alright before you did it. Or you could just listen to them. Call me old fashioned, but I lived by my parents' rules until I moved out. Thems the breaks, kid. How old are you, anyway? My parents didn't care what I did to my car when I was living at home at 23, but they didn't even let me buy a car 'till I was 19.

haha... my parents yelled at me when i started doing mods to my car. The worse one was coming home with shaved door handles after going ot my buddy's house and doing them. They didn't car for the other mods besides telling me i was wasting my money. They bought the car for me as a graduation present. Everytime i come home with something new my parents just shakes their head now.. cuz they've been yelling at me for 4 years now.. hahahahha
I got pulled over the other day while transfers my license plate from louisiana to texas and i didn't have a plate on the car yet but I driving to the registration place. and the female cop (she was older like 40ish but cool) she says.. what kind of car is this and wheres all the emblems? I told her the truth.. I took them off and never put them back on. Then shes like.. ok. LOL
Alerodude
04-18-2005, 12:23 PM
well i took my emblems off again this morning...lol i decided to be a hardass im not gonna put them back on....ill probably put the cathodes back in but keep my corner reflector on just cause its more noticable.....

04-18-2005, 12:35 PM
my parents rant and rave whenever i do some kind of interior mod to my car. they always have and always will. its just a "cultural" difference between us.
... but as soon as i'm driving somewhere with my dad, he starts asking detailed questions about how i did stuff, cuz he'd like to do it to his suv...
its their house and their rules. they also funded half the cash for the car(that i'm almost completely paid them back) and its their insurance, so i can't do anything major like what pimpalero03 did. if i came home kitted and bagged, they would take a bat to the car.... :glare: i just live with it...

04-18-2005, 01:16 PM
That really sucks, man... The emblems though? That's crazy.
My parents are pretty cool. They bought me my deck for Christmas, and my dad was out there watching when I installed my speakers. I removed my emblems a couple weeks ago and they haven't even noticed... lol. I'm going to have to clear my corners on a day that they're both gone, just 'cuz I hate being interrogated. Probably the only time I will ever get a hard time for modding my car is when I start tampering with engine related things and most likely suspension too.
Oh well. I hope you get things worked out, dude.

WOW.... I didnt know there were so many people put there with that problem. Me personally i have never had that problem. Hell i even tell my parents what i WANT to do to my car... Show them pics, Videos, Sound clips, ETC. and they are like cool.... I even told them about a possibility of me getting a body kit since my front bumper is kinda messed up and they thought it was a good idea... I pay for the car payment. Altho it is in their name... I pay for insurance (when i can both payments total to 600 a month) and most of the time i pay for gas. ANd as far as being married or having a GF not likeing the mods... Me and my gf are very very close... Luckily she understands why i do the stuff i do or want to do the stuff i want to do... I guess im one of those lucky few.

Don't get me wrong I love my wife greatly and we get along great. Its just that she doesn't really understand anything to do with mechanics. I had to explain why I had to replace the distributor in her civic before the thing exploded. It took like twenty min. This just happens to be the one part of my life that she fains intrest in simple to appease me. So I guess I am lucky, I just have to come up with more creative ways of selling her on the mods I am doing.

K well your parents are ASSHOLES
Mine were too, i told em to f*** off, and moved out untill they stoped being assholes.... for the most part.. they are still assholes... ahg.... anyways..
With my alero when i came home with 17's, and exhaust and system etc etc.. my rents knew that i was going to do those things because i have been modding cars for a while... but there still was the question as to " why is there a large box in your room that says H&R on it?? " hahaha
IF you are accualy paying for everything, car insurance etc, then tell them to f*** off, because it is YOUR property, if you have to park your car accross the st so its not on their property, and do like i do. when my rents say that doing something is illigal or affects insurnace, i tell them to show me where it does... and they cant. so its REAL GOOD haha
