Hello people my name is Richie; I'm in Bakersfield, CA. Proud 99 Alero owner, got it with 40k mi and it's up to 115k now. My "old" problem is with the front speed sensors, they're reporting "erratic signal" (per my mechanic, quoted me $800 to replace both hubs). Done some research and found out that lots of ppl have had the same issue... but could not find anything on the possibility of replacing just the sensors... can this be done? if so... could a guy that has "very limited experience" as a mechanic (that'd be me :) ) adventure and do it himself? Thank you a bunch in advance!

Welcome aboard, Richie. Don't recall ever hearing about that problem with the Aleros but it wouldn't surprise me. Heopfully someone on here will have the answers you need.

From what I understand you cant just replace the sensor. It requires hub replacement. I havent done the job before so I cant tell you how hard or easy it is.

I have replaced my driver's hub and I will be doing my passenger side up next weekend. I took me about 90 minutes to do the driver's side. Mechanical wise if you can replace your brakes you should be able to replace your hub. Just use the search button there is a good walk-thru out there.

Oh yeah, Welcome to the site!

Guys thanks for your fast replies!

Hey j-work, if you don't mind me asking... how much did you pay for the hub you just replaced?

Thanks again to all of you!

You can get the hub for around $100 at Autozone or other auto supply place. That's for the aftermarket. The mechanic is probly quoting you for the OEM ones, which are closer to $350 each. My boyfriend did mine for me, so I don't know how hard it was. You may want to ask your mechanic if you could supply the parts and pay him for his labor time only. That should cut the cost in half.

you can't replace just the sensor because it is molded into the hub if i remember right.
