i have an 03 4 door alero with the ecotec and my brother has a 99 grand am gt with nothing done but a ram air hood and i've got an intake header and cat back exhaust. now i've heard i should be able to beat him, but his car just seems so damn fast compared to mine. i know mikess could beat them, but is it because of his being a 5 speed or should my auto be able to beat him too? another question has anyone with an eco ever raced a new sentra spec v? if so what was the outcome.

don't be a puss go to the track and get it on. you can sleep when your dead.

I do know the 5sp 2.4 will lose to the the nissan by about 1~1.5 car lengths, ur that is what I read in C&D anyways, I don't go to the track  . Mike ownz me so he would probably beat it by two car lengths.

Yeah, you are probably going to lose. A grand am GT is fast, and even with your mods, your going to lose with the automatic. If you could get an ECU controller to change your redline/gearshifts/fuel cutoff things would be different.

The reason the 5-speed can make up the differnece in HP is because it can be launched with clutch feathering at 3000-3500rpm, and could be shifted 100-200rpm into redline.

Spec V stock for stock would beat us all, they do about 15.2 stock, and some even hit 14.9 stock, or with just exhaust. (I was looking at buying this car)

But yeah, go to the track and see what happens, it is all for fun anyway. :thumb:

That and compared to an automatic the manual is more efficient at putting more of it's power to the ground.

Very good point, isn't it something like 15% power through tranny lose for a manual roughly compared to an automatics like 22% roughly?

I've raced a Nissan Sentra SE-R before and we were neck and neck. He was 6 spd. I had a 2.4L 5 spd. I've never raced a Spec-V before bit since it's only got about 10 more HP then the SE-R I'd say it would squeek a win.

Essentially. Some manuals are closer to 12% (mustang). Auto's are typically 20-23%.

thanks for the info, you guys really know your stuff. i really should look into a 5 speed. i mean for the money i think i would be happier beating more cars than i do now. even though i'm not the best 5 speed driver out there i think i could learn. i drive my g/f's cavy with 5 speed sometimes and i'm decent, just wish she had a little more power. shes gonna trade it in for a celica gts in a month or two. cant wait.
