:( I have this humming for lack of better description coming from my front end while driving down the highway and was wondering if the front hubs when they go start making those types of noises? I have around 75,000 miles on my 2000. The axles aren't making that thumping feel in corners so I've kinda ruled out the axles but I'm not sure. I've heard that the front hubs are notorious for going out but am not sure what the symptoms are. Any ideas? Thanks guys! :thumb:

That's what it sounds like. Mine, each time the hub needed replaced, sounded like you described. Might wanna go ahead and have it checked out just to be safe. Are any of your lights coming on? Service engine, trac off and I think the abs lights are the ones that usually come on when the hub is going out.

I had both front hubs and wheel bearings replaced and no lights ever came on, just a hum, which sounded like I was driving a monster truck with 35 inch tires on it!!! Now that I have had those replaced my ABS light is on constantly!!! I swear I have more problems...............

Yeah that's kinda the sound I'm getting but not quite that loud YET. The ABS sensor is supposedly part of the hub assemble. Was yours used or new?

It could also be your tires. Mine are pretty loud, and I'm 100% sure it's not my hubs because they are brand new.

I think they were new..............for the price that I paid for them to get fixed they should be solid Gold!!!hehe

I paid 158 canadian for my wheel hub and intalled it myself, really wasn't that hard, it was a little tough getting the old one off, but went back together in a flash. the Hub and wheel bearings are one unit so it works out good, so even if it was just the bearings you'd have to replace the whole hub anyway. Pick yourself up a hanyes repair book for the alero and it has step by step info on how to do it and what you'll need.
