it don't look like you used enough fiberglass resin for it to soak through. And you should use fiberglass mat, it alot more flexible to move it around. You should of cut your fiberglass cloth it looks like into pieces, so they don't rinkle. when i did my the carpet/tweed itself before i laid any fiberglass on it soaked up 1/2 gallon if not more. after that the mat or cloth itself should soak up as much.

heres some pics of mine.

after glassing with 2 layers of fiberglass mat.

your at a good start though. i'm self taught too. but i had guidence from my buddy who does body work. The messer the fiberglassing the better ..lol not talking getting it all over yourself .. but the time to brush on the resin before it hardens up..hehehe and don't use the count the drops of hardener thing.. from what my buddy taught me, just put a amount in and work quick.

These are some advice to help ya out. if ya like them awesome, if not oh well.

good luck on the finished product.

feel free to ask anything.. i'm here to help.

Working on the same thing. I used cloth to make the first two layers to get a basis/ shape then mat for strength.

Aftermath, when I lay the resin over the mat, is there anything I can do to prevent a bunch of the fiber strings to mesh up in a sticky ball? There's not much but it gets annoying, maybe Im ignoring something.

nah.. just take your time after laying the resin from the mixed up ... just run the paint brushes slowly in 1 direction.. if u go back and forth you'll get more bumps from the loose excess strains. which you'll need to grind down before you bondo.

Thanks for the tips aftermath. And yea like i said this is only the second thing i have done and i am still learning the tricks of the trade and what not. I painted it yesterday and installed it and actually look pretty decent i had to do alot of sanding though. and also after i let the cloth and resen harden i put on a couple layers of just resin to get it nice and smooth (tip from an autobody guy). also thanks for the help with the pics grouch!
