I am interested in getting an aftermarket spoiler sunroof for my 99 Alero (like factory) I had a few concerns, however, as to where to go for this, prices and labor, and the probability of having leakage and electrical problems with it. Will it even be sound?

First off, you need to find someplace very reputable in the area of installing aftermarket moonroofs. Most of them will garuntee against leakage. If there's a "classic soft trim" by you, I would recommend them. Otherwise, ask around and find somebody good. Don't go to a hole in the wall place that works out of their garage in the basement. Let us know where you live and we might be able to recommend some place. Price can vary, but you're looking somewhere in the $500 range...HOWEVER!!!! I haven't looked at them in awhile, so they could be more or even less. But for some reason 500-800 sticks in my mind. Lemme know if you have any more questions.

Get one that slides inside the car not one that slides above the car, like our alero's that is by far my least favorite part about the car. I kinda get embarrased to have my moonroof up..but thats just my opinion..

Thank you so much for the help, and live in Raleigh, NC. My dad is a mechanic so i know what places to avoid (the dealer being the most prominent one). hah =) We get in so much messed up, overcharged work done by them coming in our shop all the time. ;)

Here's a classic soft trim branch in Raleigh...I would trust these guys before anybody, they do really good work and they're a reputable company.

I just got quoted at a local customizing shop at $350 for a pop-up, and $650 for electric. At first I thought I would want the electric, but the pop-up has the option of taking the glass out with two small clips which will give you more open space than the electric one. I think I'm gonna go manual with this one and save 300 bucks. Also, both prices are for everything, parts and labor, and the part as well as the labor have a lifetime warranty. :beerchug:

Thanks so much for your help, i really appreciate it. I just wish the stupid guy that i bought my alero from would have gotten more options on it from factory. =/
Oh well, my car is the best anyway =) And btw, this website is beyond awesome, along with the people here!

poop 650 bucks for the electric installed. I wish, I haven't priced any out in canda yet but I was looking online and just to order the electric sunroof is quite alot of money.

When I bought my alero brand new there wasn't one in western canada in that grey color with the options i wanted being the 5spd ecotec with full options so I ended up getting one without power windows and sunroof.

and being as my cars a lease I doubt i'd put money into a sunroof as I don't think I want to buy the car out.

my question is were did you find that business that does the sunroof installs? Cause if they have a shop in saskatchewan canada someplace i'd probly have to look into it.

pop up sunroofs are not that great...i had one in my cavalier...the problem with them is when you take the glass out, you have to find something to do with it

One thing to bear in mind.....cutting a hole in your roof voids the factory 10 year/100,000 mile rust-through warranty. Most people don't care, but you never know....
