I just recently purchased a 2003 alero a couple months ago. I am thinking about doing some mods to it. I haven't really done anything major yet. Just got some new pedals, windshield blades, steering wheel and seat covers... nothing really jaw dropping. just some run of the mill type stuff... i'm new to this whole thing and i was wondering where was a good place to start? i was thinking about changing the interior bulbs but for one i don't know what type, and for two i don't really know where to get the type of bulbs i want my car is a dark sea green like color, almost blue looking. i'm partially colorblind so it's hard to tell lol. what would be reccomended - should i go with the lighting first, and if so what color would look good? if not the lights, what would be a good starting point... thanks.

oh yeah one other thing - about the bulbs. i checked the owners manual and it told me to consult the dealer on how to mess with the interior bulbs. i don't know exactlly where theyre located and how to take them out. im not sure, but i think it didnt mention anything about the dome light either. how do you open that up? lol.. thanks.

first off welcome to the site...most of the bulbs you can figure out where they are by opening the door of your car when its dark out side....selp explanitorey...second off if your going for the show mods go with some gauge overlays, tinted widows, new shifter, and definately a new Head Unit. On the other hand, if you are going for the "go" mods, go with a Cold Air Intake(CAI), borla, slp, or flowmaster exhaust, some new wheels, and some lowering springs or coilovers. You can find pretty much all of this stuff and more at;
www.aleroupgrades.com if it's not down.

The lights under the dash, and in the glove box are # 194 you can get these in almost any color at autozone. Just pull these out and replace em. Adds a nice touch to the interior for only a couple of bucks

Seriously consider what you want to do first and go with that. Just adding stuff because it's cheap or you think you like it is a waste of time and money. Try to stay with one theme and remember less is more. You can't go wrong with simple. If you plan on going all out shop around, check out some websites and ask the veterans. It will help alot in the long run. As far as the interior lights I got some L.E.D interior replacements on e-bay at a reasonable price. I recommend the L.E.D because the colored bulbs don't last long, plus they are hella brighter.

dont waste your money on stupid stuff like bulbs and seat covers, save up and buy something like a set of 19s, airride, a kit, a tight paintjob, anything like that. Dont be another pep boys pimp rollin on 16s or 17s with some lowering springs, do some real work.

what's wrong with lowering springs and 17's?
Not everyone needs adjustable suspension, and air doesn't really work all that well on our cars. Juice works better.
Autocross is becoming popular, and many people like riding on 17's because they are better for handling. Also, a car with lowering springs, strut tower braces, etc handles much better than a car with air.

Not wanting to start crap but I'm just curious of why.....
...Why do people do "mods" or consider them "mods" of changing the appearance on the exterior/interior?
Or even I've seen some one consider "coil covers" mods... How does that do anything? It's APPEARANCE. It looks nice.... yet does nothing.
"Mods" under the hood to help make it faster. I'm not trying to start crap but just mods are something that does something for the engine. Yet this is just how I feel so no one please get angry or anything I'm not trying to start crap!!!!!

i dont want to get in a fight either but a mod is anything you add or alter to your car that didnt come with it.

Yah true but .. all it does is change your appearance.. nothing else... I'm sorry if i'm going to spend money on a mod it will be to make it faster and better the engine!

Hey! I'm ROLLIN on 17's and I won't go near a PepBoys! that place is a freakin joke! and you can't buy Intrax at PepBoys either.
And I'm going for alot of speed and handling( for the coastal bend PCA autocross) and some show also, modifying cars or trucks is a love, so nothing is a waste of money if thats what they want to do!
