I've been playing email-tag with the guys over @ FX Designs about possible making aftermarket fenders and/or a Ram Air style hood for our cars. They're willing to do a group buy, but it would only work with 10 buyers for each product. ( 10 people buying the fenders, and/or 10 people buying the hood ) I doubt like hell we can get 10 people together to buy the hood, because even though it's relatively cheap, it's a pin-on style hood, http://www.grandamgt.com/forum/images/smilies/puke.gif, and it's uh, rather ugly IMO. The fenders are definately a possability though, because they're not bad looking. Kind of different without looking too ricey.
Oh yeah, 1 more catch: They'll need a car for fitment, and they're located in Alberta, so with any luck @ all, we have a member here that's not too far away from there, who's interested in either or both products...Keep your fingers crossed gang, I'm waiting on one more email from them giving pricing details before I post any pics. I don't wanna get anyone's hopes up. :beerchug:

Like I said, until I get that last email that includes pricing details, I'm holding the pics. I just don't want to get people's hopes up, y'know? Trust me on this one, the fenders are kinda nice. Not as nice as Gregg's mind you, but these might be more affordable than most any other fender you'll find, other than having a body shop mold in a set of inserts on your stock fenders. I'm not holding my breath on the hood thing, I think the design is ugly, and it wouldn't break my heart if NOone was interested. LMAO

sry to break it to ya brotha, but the two designs they're offering are al they're willing to do @ this point. :( A 442 hood would be sweet, I admit. I'd love to see a hood like Richie's become available to the public one day. I mean, not just as a custom 1 of 1 deal, but buy the hood off the shelf kinda thing.

Ok gang. Seing as how it's 1/4 after 10PM my time, it looks as though I won't be seeing any more emails from Rob tonight with regards to pricing. I hate to have started this thread and leaving you open-ended without even having a picture or anything, so with that said, i'll post you our previous conversations, followed by some pics.

Subject: custom Oldsmobile parts?
To Whom it may concern;
I'm among many Oldmobile Alero owners who are interested in custom aftermarket hoods and fenders. I've seen your fenders available for the older Grand Am, and I'm wondering if you've done a mock-up for this style on a newer ( 99-04) Grand Am, because the fitment would be very close to that of an Alero. If Alero hoods and fenders are something you could manufacture, please feel free to email me. Keep up the good work guys. :)

Hello;
We had discussions with a few people on the web as to making fenders for the 92-98 and 99-04 but nothing has come back yet. We require a bulk buy of 10 sets of fenders or hoods with deposits and then we will custom make the parts. We would also require a car to fit them on for a few days. If you are interested in organizing a bulk buy on these items I am sure we can do something.
Thank you for your interest in FX

Could you possibly send me pictures of what's possible in terms of designs? ( Both hoods AND fenders. ) I think a group buy would be easier accomplished if people could see examples of your designs. Also: If a group buy was something that could happen, would all the buyers be required to be purchasing one particular item? What I mean is, would you need atleast 10 buyers PER DESIGN. Thanks for your time, hopefully we can get you some business, and the Alero owners the aftermarket support they deserve. :)
Again, thanks for your time,

Hello;
The fenders would be our VSX style like on the MX3 and the hood would be the Ram Air Style Pin ON. We would require 10 orders of each item.

Ok, and now the fenders. I like Gregg's fenders better, but if this deal does take off, they're one more thing that's available, and well, we Alero owners can't be too picky, as there's shat for aftermarket panels avalable, but I'm trying......
This is the design on an older Cavelier/Sunbird:

Well the fenders aren't as tacky as the hood, imo. The hood is just too "beefy" if you will, for an Alero.

05-10-2005, 12:51 AM
I agree.. it's too 'beefy' for a friggin Cavalier, too. I think I would put it more along the lines of anteater meat, tho, not beef. :P :wacko:

It's a figure of speech.. like, it should be on a muscle car.. not an Alero or a Cavalier.

Hello;
The Pin On style Ram Air Hood would be $398.00 U.S.D. or $498.00 Canadian (Shipping to the U.S. to a business is $200.00 and in Canada it ranges from $100-150.00) and the VSX Fenders would be $300.00 U.S.D. or $400.00 Canadian (Shipping would be $85.00 to the U.S. and $50-85.00 In Canada)
Thanks Rob
Sales&Marketing@FX
For us south of the boarder, that's $385 for a set of fenders, shipped to our door ! I dunno about the quality though, I suppose if there were someone local to them that could possibly go to their facility and check things out? I dunno, but if the quality is decent, and the fitment is good enough that the lines of the car are ok, then I'd JUMP @ these fenders for that price. Anyone care to make the drive out to their facility? They're located @

Good point, Cyber... i'll put a bug in Rob's ear about what exactly is needed to fitment, time-wise.
EDIT : I emailed him inquiring about what's gotta happen in terms of test fitment, how much deposit there needs to be up-front, and whether or not it's possible for them to handle all the money.
I think it would not only be easier, but people would feel alot safer making the investment directly with the company, rather than a complete stranger, like myself. Comments?

now Rob, how much time is needed to do a top-notch job with test fitment? I've got several people who live within a decent driving distance that might be interested in making this happen for us, but they need to know exactly what the process entails, how many trips to your facility, how much time when they're there, etc....Also, would it be possible for the money each individual is investing in these products be sent directly to you, that way no one person is handling the money? How much of a deposit is required for each set of fenders / each hood?
Thanks for your time and patience,

Hello;
The hood we can do with out a car. But the fenders require a car for a couple of days. We can pick up aftermarket fenders and a hood and do all the mods but we would like to test fit a couple of pieces before we ship. Deposits (25%) can be made direct to us.
Thanks
Sales&Marketing@FX
Ok, so the money is held by the company, they need roughly $100 deposit per set of fenders, and they need 10 buyers to make this happen. One of which needs to be able to spend a few days here and there for test fitment of the fenders, pretty-much getting the install for free. They leave it up to you to get them painted though, hehehe
Anyone near Edmonton Alberta willing to donate their time in order to make this fender deal happen?

This isn't a gurantee but If you can find 9 members wanting in on the fenders I would be more than happy to be your tenth. That hood is fugly as hell so you can scrap that idea. Maybe wait a little longer till more people come online to reply to this. But I'm in if you can find more people.

just have custom ones made from your stock fenders..........it would be cheaper for you anyway..........it's not like you care about the weight anyways, all you want it the looks, so just have some of those vents molded onto your stock fenders.......
