Might be a GX. I don't have leather, power seats, or a sunroof either and mine is a gx. Didn't have alloy wheels either. I don't know what to tell ya except for taking aleroblokes advice.

Do you have power windows? Power windows do not come on the GX.

which is base? GL or GX? i thought GL was cuz that is what i have. Hubcaps, no sunroof or leather, everything automatic but the seats(which are broken cuz the previous owner thought it was pimp to practically lay down in the seat while driving)and also traction control and the 4-banger.
but yea, you need the last 8 of the vin or something and call the dealer, problem solved.

Not sure if the Canadian version is any different than the American version, but mine is a GX, has alloy wheels and power seat. It did not have the sport package. I had heard all GX models came without fog lamps. If that is right thats one way to tell if you have a GX or not. If that helps any.

I'm not questioning you or trying to start anything. I was just under the impression that the sports package included a 5 speed tranny. At least that's what I read on this (http://www.oldsmobile.com/olds/alero/options.html) page. Unless someone specially ordered your car and opted not to have the manual transmission, then I guess it could be a gx. Heck if I know.

i didnt get a link from u or anything underlined....
and as it says on there....it doesnt say anything about it having to be a 5speed to get the sport package. all it says is it must be a gx model. dont really kno where u are reading that at

Also take into consideration the years of the cars. The GX's engines up to 2001 were 2.4's and in 2002 they went to 2.2's There are going to be differences by the year. The only thing I have found so far (I heard it when I bought the car) was the GX models did not have fog lamps from 99 till the end. So Alero04 I would guess yours was a GX model. Unless you were maybe second owner and they had been removed at some time. Also as for the automatic, I couldnt buy a 4 banger automatic. If you wanted the stick it came with a 2.4 liter and the auto came with the 6.

The links we posted are the same. But sparky you're probably right.. there must be a difference in what we have here and what you all have up there.

Then its a GX. Ive heard most cars have little differences when being shipped to different countries.
Anyway hope that helps a little. But we still havent answered the original question for this thread about the GL, GL1, and GLS. OOPS! :P

The canadian models WERE in fact different. You could get one heck of a loaded-up GL 5-speed right to the end there. Even with the factory side marker lights in the fenders which we never got in the US.
