may be a stupid question but i dont care....
what exactly does an intake do? wai or cai??

the stock air intake is very restrictive...a WAI is less restrictive...gives ya a bit more HP a CAI usually takes is a bit further bringing the air filter near the bottom of the car where cold air lyes. colder air is denser ...etc etc produces more hp.. a bit more than a WAI

i was told that the WAI is best for where i am and stuff...
and i was told by a ricer guy i kno here in my city that i NEED to go with the CAI....
see this is why i shouldnt be trying to learn this stuff lol

nothing wrong with trying to learn things
but the cold the air the more effecient your fuel will burn in turn = better fuel milegeand increased hp.

CAI is also more expensive... I bought a WAI from ebay for like 40 bucks shipping included

I made a WAI from PVC pipes and a cone filter. It works good. Total cost was about 20 bucks.

yea im not making anything...
i was told that WAI gives u better gas mileage....see this is what confuses me...i hear one thing from one person and the total opposite from another...grrrrr!!! :P

Alero04 I would think either or would give you better fuel mileage...both have less restriction....

Both will give you better fuel milage, and both have the chance to HURT your fuel milage, mostly because once people have an intake they tend to be on the gass more then before.
The advantage of either setup cold or warm air is that it is less restrictive, and can flow more air easyer, thus meaning that your engine can be more efficant and make more power, the CAI is best for this, but in some RARE Cases lead to hydrolock due to water injestion, this can be avioded with a bypass valve, aem makes one.
My suggestion if your not too keen on cars, get a WAI, you dont have to worry as much about the negative, and its easyer to clean, and looks nice :P haha

If you dont want it to sound powerfull then dont bother, really it will not make that noticeable differance in power.
When i said keen on cars i ment more in the mechanicly inclined part...

Quoted post
Intakes sound sweet, and the best part is you don't hear them normally, only when you hit the throttle.
If I were you I'd go WAI. Both really add barely any power at all, nothing really noticeable (even though everyone will pretend otherwise) but the WAI is cheaper, and much easier to install, and WAY easier to clean the filter.
