ok so i used that caliper painting kit that i used on my aleor, only i used two colors this time. i got creative. i def. recommend this kit to everyone who paints their calipers. its a lot easier then spray paint cuz u brush it on and its thick. i did about 8 coats. lol just make sure u clear coat it so its wet looking

Looks good, but why red.

It's a good contrast IMO, but I probably would have done blue

Are they the same calipers that are on the Alero?

i did red cuz of the red bow tie on the rim and the SS on the side of car, SS on back, front emblem. im gonna paint the 3800 series two red on engine cover and the cover same color as the car. i didnt do full out red though, that way it wasnt to much. just the caliper. hte brace and brake pad backing is painted black

Looks good Paul! :thumb:

Did you take the calipers off/apart to paint or leave them on?
If you left em on, how did you mask for the clearcoat?

u paint it on wiht a brush. its not spray paint. and as u can see in hte pic, i jacked up one side. i would put one coat on one caliper, then go to other one and put a coat on, hten back to other one. back and forth like 8 times. hten clear coated. so it dries fast

I only ask because you have a pic of the clearcoat in a spray can..... Did you not mask anything off when you sprayed the clearcoat on?

not really, i just took a paper towl and covered the rotor.

I painted mine red as well, IMO the reds the best color no matter what vehicle color is just because the purpose of the pain is to stand out, but neways a quick question, anyone heard of engine enamel Chrome paint??? i was thinking that chrome calipers would be CRAZY nice behind some gunetal rims with the chrome lip...ahh I can see it now :-D

did u guys with the aleros take your calipers off? im tryen to get mine off but i cant see an easy way. i notice 2 large blots that seem like they are the key but they dont wanna move.

i painted mine on the car, just mask off what u don't want overspray or paint to get onto.

i actually just took 2 clear plastic grocery bags, put them over the rotors, and tucked an edge under the caliper. then threw a small piece of duct tape on the back connecting the two sides of the bag (for good measure)

worked great! but i also used spray style for both, so i wanted a little more coverage, didn't want the paint to get away from me and hose everything...

would it be easier with the spray caliper paint to just take the calipers off, rather than masking stuff off? Might be doing mine soon....

if u use the kit i had, u dont spray, u brush on. lot better then a rattle can

ryanthefizz

would be much easier if u took them off, just didnt know how so i did a half ass job

Pimpalero03

that is why i dont like spray painting them.

just make sure you clean the oil/brake crap off REALLY good. i missed a small part on the back of the brake pad on the drivers side and the paint wouldn't stick. looks like crap in one little spot. luckily its not noticeable till you get right up on it.

i didn't have a problem masking it off. i actually lifted the front end and turned one wheel out, to the entire caliper was accessible. i would have preferred brush on, but didn't have any problem w/ the rattle can.

I just painted my calipers this weekend with the same stuff and man is that kit awesome. The ceramic paint is very thick and coats smoothly. Definitely easier to paint with the caliper loose and flipped out (remove the top bolt but not the bottom one).

Pimp, 8 coats is insane. I guess you will never have to worry about painting them again. I only coated them twice because I didnt have the patience or time to do another coat or two. As thick as this stuff goes on though I really dont think I need anymore than 2. Will post some pics here in the next week after I get a chance to clean up my dirty ass wheels.

i did it with a rattle can, so i took 'em out...took me a day..big deal...turned out way nice, and have not faded one bit, and still look as glossy as the day i did 'em...

the red looks good...i did the same thing with 2 colors when i did mine last september

The 2 big bolts allow you to take the caliper apart. I do my own brakes, and from the factory they're torqued pretty good. Use a breaker bar with a torque bit to break em free. the outer caliper piece comes right off.
look up powder coating. It's the most durable finish for a heat application. They have kits for that also, but it normally requires a high heat oven to bake it on.

Everyone seems to be going red with calipers. I think the blue would look great.

Another thing I noticed is my front right caliper piston wasn't lubed properly when it came from the factory.
My outher brake pad was worn to the wear sensor, with my inner untouched. It's not going to be completely even, but doesn't hurt to check while you're tinkering.
I wiped down my piston with brake cleaner and relubed it with synthetic caliper lube.

yeah the pistons on theses calipers are problems, actually the whole brake set up is problems. :gun: GM brakes... my next brake job is gonna be an upgrade to crossdrilled no slotted 13" fronts 12" rears with ceramic pads. had ceramics before and they were awesome :thumb:
