i finally got my amp and sub for the grand prix...the amp is a kicker 2500.1, and the sub is a 12" kicker solo-x. just need my 200 amp alternator to get here, and build a box and it'll be ready to install.

That is one big amp, and one big sub.

I like that you used a beer bottle for reference. It is probably the one thing that most all of us can relate too.
Oh yeah...Nice system.

What is the spec on the sub..are you gonna run two?, or no room? i like your setup. damn i'm retarded for asking so many questions.. okay. i'll shut the hell up now..

holy christ...........i doubt he's running 2, those things are MASSIVE, and make mean bass, i dont rememver the exact weight but they're supposed to be heavy as hell

Have fun when those blow :thumb:
Speakers are round for a reason.

notice....this is a subwoofer, not just a regular speaker. im not going to argue this point with you as others have already exhausted attempts

only gonna run 1. the sub can handle 2500 watts rms, and weighs in at 47 lbs. i could probably fit 2, but i dont think i need that much bass and didnt want to spend that much money.

 since you're obviously smarter than the engineers at kicker, care to give your logic as to why a square subwoofer is guaranteed to blow. despite the fact that they've been makin square subs for years without problems with them blowing, i'm sure you know something they dont.

Nice. Are you going sealed or ported? About a 5 cubic foot box tuned at about 35 would make your ears bleed.
And I also would like to know why they would blow? Plus doesn't the solo-x's have a removable cone and voice coil assembly so just in case it blows you can replace it with having to remove the whole damn assembly?
On another note I built a box last weekend for 2 L7s going into my Metro. Getting it metered on July 15th at Stereo-In-Dash. If you have your stuff hooked up by then you should ride out and get it metered. I've never heard the 12" Solo-x and I'm curious to see how well they do. I heard the 18" once and f*** that it was too damn loud.

Bring it on beatches.
There is incredible stress at the corners of these square solo's, and they HAVE had problems with them blowing.
Physics says that the optimal shape for a cone speaker is a CIRCLE. Thats why every other friggen sub (except those gay octogon ones wich still aren't as bad as a square) are CIRCLES.

I guess there must be something wrong with the canadian versions because the shop I frequent hasn't had any problems with the square subs from kicker. They sell more L5s and L7s than any other sub they keep in stock.
They have gotten some back but that's because the tard that bought them wasn't powering them correctly.
Oh and please state your sources for this info.

it's a good thing the corners are rounded and not sharp then...

It is, thats the only reason they work. You still end up with way more stress at the rounded corners because of the design.

i agree that there's gonna be more stress, but i just dont see why u think it's gonna blow the sub.

probably gonna go sealed, because kicker only recommends running 1400 watts for the ported enclosure.
what size L7's u running, and what amp? that should be crazy loud in the geo.
i should have everything ready to go by july 15, so i'll prolly see you at stereo-in-dash. should just be completing the break-in period then, so i'll see how loud it is.

I got the 12" models. Right now they are going to be ran by a Directed 600d which is about 1/2 the power they need. I'm trying to get a friend to sell me his JBL 1200.1. I have them in a 6.5 cubic feet ported box tuned to roughly 35 Hz. Damn thing weighs close to 70 lbs without the subs.

Just don't get stupid with it, and make sure you sell it after a few years and you'll be fine ;)

I'm not about to give another f*ckin physics lecture on aleromod because someone doesn't understand something. Go google wave physics and have a fun afternoon reading it.

You preaching to the choir about wave physics and so forth. I know all about it it's nothing new to me. I want to know where your info comes from that they HAVE had problems blowing. I've never seen or heard of someone blowing a Solo-X. L7's I seen and heard blow but it was because they under powered and a clipped signal killed them.

and with that, closed. Too much to clean and edit.
Travis feel free to start another thread on the subject. Hopefully it will stay on track next time.
I'm also in the boat of I believe that the Kicker Engineers forsaw the issues surrounding non-round subs and engineered the sub to avoid those issues.
