OK, so i was driving home start up the car running and idleing perfect. i get on 475 and i notice the temp gauge slowly rising. by the time i hit 475 i have to turn the car off to stop it from over heating. i did this a couple more times to get to a mcdonalds where i can leave the car sit.

Now, i noticed a loud clunk coming from the fan(i know it is the fan cause it will do it for a few seconds after i shut off the car), the engine doesnt FEEL hot at all but the gauge says it is running hot(hot to the point the light will come on). I ALSO have no heat coming out when i turn my heater on inside. it blows the air but it is all cold air. WTF. any ideas? :pissed: :pissed: :pissed:

Perhaps a clogged heater core? It's not very common on the Alero, but it's possible.

thermostat?

Sounds like thermostat. With engine warm feel the upper radiator hose to see if it is hot & the coolant is circulating.

my first guess would be t-stat too. sounds like its stuck closed. Air in the heater lines is possible, or a clogged hose/core. but thats not common at all. Try t-stat first.

I agree, if nothing else, this is a perfect time to go to a good aftermarket low-temp T-stat

changed the stat and drive belt. nothin. still no heat and runs hot. only thing i can think of now is heater core or water pump....i dont see any major leaks(if it were the heater core) so i dont know. i coulda scraped something on a speed bump the other day.

i think i got it figured out.....think there was some air in the coolant lines. let it run with out the pressure cap on....put it on and ran fine. stat was bad tho. i tested it and it dint open.
