Alright what you guys think?? I talked to a guy down here in South Florida that makes and produces CF hoods, trunk, body kits etc..., My parents are good friends with the guy. He said if i can get at least like 15-20(i know thats alot) people we might get a good price, he didnt want to tell me a price yet because i just wanted to see if anyone is interested?? I also pmed crazytaxi about asking him about it. And just to let you know the big tail lights might be a big deal. Might be a little pricey, but i think the CF hoods that everyone group buyed on here, that it would look killer with the trunk lid also. Just curious?????

Just let me know if you are interested, this is not in production nor does he have a mold this is in the very very very very beginning stages....

Or if anyone else has tried to price these out from someone let me know.

ive discussed the trunk lid with crazytaxi already. and what he learned from the hoods, this was the issue: you would need two molds, one for the top and the bottom. 2 molds = $$$$$. unless your guy is doing something diff i dont see this as being very cost effective.

i don't wanna be the rain on your parade but these things never go through. Nobody is going to pay over $500 for a light weight trunk lid on a slow @$$ car. And even if you could find a couple, you could never find 15 - 20. Sorry...

2 molds.. cuz you need the outside of the trunk and one for the inside of the trunk lid .. you know the area when u open your trunk and see the struture braces..etc

It really don't matter.. lights or no lights.. it'll gonna be the same price .. not much difference.

^^I also agree and if this actually does happen, i'd definately be in for it. :thumb: lightweight body panels are something i wish they made for our cars.

I agree that a hood without the center tails would really look nice. I have always thought that the tail lights on the alero were just way too big.

How close are a GA and Alero trunk (sans the tail lights obviously)?

Here's my trunk...

doenst matter much to me how it looks on the car, i'd paint it body colored anyways. i'd just want it cuz its super light.

i think the more parts we can get for our car the better.
the reason i want cf is.
i can put it on and dont have to paint it right away.
it is lighter/stronger. the stronget is what i want.

i want something diffferent but cool. and get rid of the inside lights.

i was at buggerking asd was asked what my car was after i was told it looked cool.

^ was it some 13 year old asian kid that doesn't know about any cars that weren't in Fast and Furious?

IMO, CF looks cool, but if you're gonna do body panels paint 'em. they look like plain black 10 feet away. Leave the CF look to the interior.

I kinda agree with albino, farther then about 6 or 7 feet away i just looks plain black.

Also i know some of you guys want the carbon fiber for the lightweight and strength, but to those who are saying its alot of money for a slow car wouldn't it be alot easier to just take your factory trunk lid sand it down to bare metal, fix and dents or imperfections and lay a sheet of carbon fiber over it then resin it and put a couple layers of clear coat on it. it would be just as heavy as the factory lid and it would be a hell of a lot cheaper and you wouldn't need any molds or a sertain number of people to do this.

Basicly it would be cheaper but you wouldn't have the benifits of a lightweight, stronger lid but from what everybody is saying most of you guys want the looks not nessicarily the full carbon fiber lid.

That's actually a good idea chucklez as most CF parts available commercially arent full CF anyways. Most have a fiberglass skeleton. The only flaw to your suggestion is working with CF. Not exactly a beginner's project and it could get costly if you screw up.

But yeah...having a car that's almost completey CF it is almost black from a distance. It changes depending on the angle of light. Depending on what kind of weave or material (carbon fiber, carbon kevlar, etc.) it'll shift colors as the distance changes. I know mine goes from a gold/bronze, to a black, to a silver sometimes.

I'll tell you one thing though. Carbon fiber sure is some sturdy poop...

Thats for sure sik its definatly sturdy and yea i know its definatly not beginers stuff, ive been working with it for about a month and still haven't done a peice that doesn't have at least a small error in it.

I just made this comment cuz in my opinion it would possible be cheaper and easier, but yea if things go wrong it could also get more expensive.
