there is this black over lay that goes under the bottom of our hoods..is this piece nessesary? what is it there for? and can i just get rid of it makes the bay look much nicer

Not sure but it may kill some sound from the engine bay (rattle that sort of thing also from the hood)

It's insulation... it's for heat & sound insulation. Lots of people on here have taken it off and not had any problems.

its also to help smother a fire.

Should an engine fire occur, the fire melts the clips holding it up and it falls, smothering the fire.

Could save you a lot of money, but it wont hurt anything if you take it off.
