Suicide Doors

Anyone priced this out ever?? Or know someone who has?? I just bought a 2002 impala Ls and i am gonna be dumping some money in it. Or can it be done by yourself??

Not a good idea for a daily driver but it can be done.

Is the Impala a 4 door? I would go to a body shop that does custom work, Just a guess but I'd say at least $2K for a quailty shop

I am just doing the back doors, it is a 4 door like all 2002 impalas are. and i see nothing wrong doing it and being a daily driver.

nothing wrong with suiciding the doors on a daily...definitely gonna cost some serious $$ if u want it done right. i've never heard anybody say it was easy to get the doors to line up right. if u have to ask if u can do it yourself, u should definitely take it to a shop though

take a look at jcwhitney i remember them having some kits available for install yourself

A guy I work with just bought a Saturn with suicide doors. It actually looked pretty nice. Looks like it was ment to be a 2 door with mini suicide doors. That would be nice on the 2 door Alero. I'm 6'1" and getting into that back seat is crazy. That extra 2 feet(ish) was pretty nice.

well there are no bolt on kits and you need to do some cutting and welding, the rear doors are curved on modern cars so the hinges will have to be closely spaced and you'll have to install a new latch int he b-pallar and smooth it out, then extend the wires back to where the hinges are and run them through that way


its really not all that hard if you know how to use a cut of wheel or plasma cutter and a welder

ya, but this isnt exactly something to be screwing around with by yourself. If ya wanna learn, have it done professionally at a shop that will allow you to tag along in the process or even help. cause im sure no one wants to have their door fly off their car doin 60+ on the freeway.

no travis is right if he is askin then he has no clue on how it is done
there is nothing wrong with having a suicide door on a daily driven car, on a 4-door car the c-pillar would have to be reinforced, wiring made longer, and the b-pillar made to have the striker instead of hinges on it
this is not a easy task even doin it on a 2 door it is a long and time comsuming process
if i did it it would cost about 3,000

I know this is a little off, but some friends and I just put lambo doors on his eclipse. And he found out the hard way that you have to be REALLY careful. If you don't get the hinges on correctly THE FIRST TIME Or don't tighten something the correct amount Things will open and dent the fenders from the inside, He now has all kinds of scrapes, where his door woudnt close all the way, his driver side door has a gap in it.where the door shuts in the back.

It was a mess. Not saying it couldnt be fixed, But When you're messing with the doors It would be my advice to Double and Tripple check everything before you seal everything up Otherwise you're just asking for trouble.

Ditto. If you want to do it yourself or have someone else do it just make sure its done well if its a shop don't let them rush it and if its you be careful! Like sound said, you don't want your door falling off on the freeway
