I just purchased the Kato Kombat body kit for my car. I just realized that I will have to figure out the best (most attractive) way to mount my front license plate (I live in Virginia and it is required :pissed: ). Does anybody have any pics or ideas?

its still going to look bad. Ride the storm out as long as you can without putting it on. It's required in minnesota as well but i'm going on a month and half strong without it and I have only gotten harassed once by the pigs. Your not going to find an attractive way to mount it.

That's what I was thinking of doing. I would love to not put the stupid plate on the front, but cops around here are sticklers for stuff like that. I was also thinking about mounting it in such a way that it would fairly easy to remove (for car shows & stuff).

Does anyone have any pics?

or you could not put it on and then not drive like a tool. Cops won't pull you over for not having a plate, but if they pull you over for something else, they'll write you a ticket for the no-plate. (unless you live in a pretty safe neighborhood and the cops have NOTHING better to do than to harass you...)

If it's mesh, why not just zip tie it on? Do it from the back and it wouldn't look too bad. You could easily cut it off for a show or whatever. Keep a few of them in the car to put it back on. I'd rather be legal and not worry about it every time I drove past a cop. With a kitted car you're going to get the extra look anyway.

Yup. It's illegal to have it in the windshield.

Another idea is to hinge it in the opening of your kit. I've seen cars that have it hinged loosely enough that it actually folds upwards when driving above certain speeds. I've even seen motorized versions where you can raise and lower the plate at will.

that would be pretty dang cool. let us all know if you attempt it

ps. pennsylvania doesn't require front plates :P

My rear will be like that. I have everything I need, just waiting to re-do my exaust(this weekend is looking to be the time) So I have room for the air cylinder and plate frame, etc..

there are these plate mounts for old hot rods that people use that retract. hot rods use them on the rear. with a push of a button, it folds underneath the bumper. and then push it again and it folds out. there might be enough room in the front of the bumper to install one of those and just have it flip up and down. i'll try to find a link or something with one.

^Excellent! It should be able to be modified to fit on the front. Btw, just tracked my bodykit and it should be here today! :yahoo:

like SlickSketcher said get one of the flip down plate holds that people use on mini trucks.

ok, that works for the rear and for the front if you think about it. i mean how much of your plate do you need to show legally? your tabs and your characters, do it underneath your bodykit so you can only see the numbers and letters barley. that will cut down your space if your riding low for a hideaway kit.

Congrats on getting the kit. AAS takes forever to get it to you. It took almost a month to get mine and I paid extra for express shipping. I think they sent it yellow freight. Did you get the mesh from AAS?

alerochick242

It is taking forever! A few weeks ago, the truck driver called and said that he would have to meet up with us somewhere b/c he wouldn't be able to get his truck down our narrow dirt road. My brother went to go meet the guy. When he opened the truck, my brother said that the box was opened, so he looked inside... some idiot had crushed the box and cracked my front bumper! :pissed: I'm now waiting for them to send me another one (which was supposed to be here the 23rd. Mine came Yellow freight, too.

I did get the mesh, however, I want mine to be black or silver, so I'm going to get the kit painted and then install the mesh. Also, did you have to do much prep work before getting it painted? I saw on Andy's website where they recommend sanding it.

Thank god for shipping insurrance :)

I heard it takes forever for bodykits to get to your house.

Im going to be ordering mine somtime next month I hope.

The mesh was already silver when I got it so I just left it alone. The mesh is a pita because AAS doesn't give you a way to mount it. We had to custom rig it up. The whole kit has to be sanded down and primered before it can be painted. If you go to a body shop to have it painted and installed than it should only take two or three days. I paid only $550 for the whole thing to be intalled and painted which was three hundred dollars less than the other quotes I got, so make sure you shop around to different places. If there is any other questions, just let me know.

Thanks for the advice! :) I will leave the mesh the way it is then. I saw a thread in the how-to section for mounting the mesh. Did you do yours the same way?
