I currently have a setup of two mtx 10s running on an LA sound 800watt 2 channel amp, works perfectly. I also have a set of polk momo 10s that are 600watt max each. What would be a good amp to go with and will I need to upgrade from my 4 gauge wire to a 0 gauge wire? Let me know what your thoughts are, I would like to get a good amp at a decent price (not exactly looking to spend the $1000 for a JL audio amp)

are you looking to run the mtx and the polk subs, or just the polk subs?

I'm a fan of the alpine V series. Decent price, can get loads of power if you want it, and the smaller ones are pretty underrated.

Well considering I have had to clamp down on my spending to where I basically am counting nickels and dimes for the next three months, I would prefer to sell the MTXs to replace with the Polks, however if I can come across a good amp at a good price then I might keep the MTX, but then I would have to get some kind of crossover perhaps?

Depends what you plan on doing.. the 4awg should be large enuff for you for quite a while, its good up to about 1500watts RMS.. and most amps dont accept anything bigger than 4awg.

I would get a either hifonics bx500d or bx1000d the run under $200 on ebay and put out there little higher than there rated power. I have a bx1500d and it is great. (check to see if those polks will wire to 1 ohm to get the full potential out of these amps)

i havent checked out the specs on those polks, but i'd guess you'll only need 300 watts rms for them, so finding a cheap amp shouldn't be a problem. i'd also guess they're each 4 ohm, so you'll prolly want something that's stable at 2 ohms mono...

Ok maybe this is why I am lost about finding an amp that will best power these subs. I have been looking for an amp that will be 1200 watts max, or push close to 600 watts RMS (I have been adding both subs RMS together to get that) If anyone would tell me the correct way to match amps and subs up i would appreciate it (i have heard too many ways to know whats the right way now). I get the feeling that 300watt rms amp stable to 2 ohms will get the most out of my subs? Thanks for imput everyone!

Also I would like it to be known that the two polks I have are 600watts max power, 300watts RMS, each.

are they 4ohm subs or 8 ohm subs?

these are 4 ohm subs

then you'll want an amp that does 600x1 rms @ 2ohms.

Would I be best to go with a type D mono amp or 2 channel for a 600x1 @ 2 ohms?

you can get a mono amp or a 2 channel amp, it doesnt matter. as for getting a class D type amp, some people like 'em, some dont,
