So I have an iPod mini on its way to my doorstep and am anxiously awaiting my chance to become a trendwhore and join the millions of morons who bought a pretty peice of silicon and metal that makes noise. It will be a wonderful day when it arrives so I can act like one of those people doing those stupid funky dances in the commercial while listening to some crappy U2 song that no one cares about.

Er, yea.

Anyhow, I want to listen to my iPod in my car. I have a stock HU and I'd like to keep it that way if possible. I didn't really intend to spend more than $100 to get the damn thing to work but it looks like my options suck.

So has anyone else done the iPod + car thingie and have any advice?

Not sure how you're going to do this under 100 bucks with a stock radio

That system right there is like $300 or so.

I found an iPod2car system that says it'll work with 03-04 Aleros. What gets me is that it says it connects to the cd changer port on the radio.

Do our radios even have a cd changer port?

What year is your alero?

there were a few options. 6 spkr, or 8 spkr sound. the 8 has the amp.

Is it the FM/CD/tape? or just the fm/CD?

If it's the same as mine I'll let you know.

edit - Mine is the FM/CD

No amp. It has an extra plugin, couldn't tell you if thats for a cd input, or an amp output. ?

I don't like the giant gap underneath the HU that an aftermarket one leaves.

Even with neato switches or whatnot it just looks bad to me. :(

alright, here's your deal....my buddy has a plug in for his IPOD that plugs into the cig lighter and on top of keeping it powered, it tunes the ipod into a radio station. Anyhow, we traveled from Pittsburgh to Charlotte using nothing but his ipod in our Uhaul with an AM/FM radio only. If you're really interested, let me know and i'll ask him where and how much.

I forgot to add the part where FM tuners are out of the question cause they suck.

If you want to replace your HU, and not have the cubby, you can get one withoutthe cubby. I don't have the cubby.

There are a few manufacturers that make a gm size replacement. IE pioneer.

Just thinkk of how picky you're being. NO RF adapter. WHich is what 99.9% of people with stock head units use. the other lucky few get an aux input.

The only input your gm car has is the extra port on the back, that may or may not be for the stock changer.

If there is a plug that goes in there, for ipod; ask your buddy. Other than that, or a miracle. Your stock head unit can not do any better than rf.

There isnt much left at that point... I'm using the Itrip mini (fm thing from Griffin) and its decent for the most part. I havent seen any adapters for the ipods and stock HUs.
