Also...If I get 2 12" subs, do I need a amp right now or can I use the subs now and get the amp later?? I have sub out on my cd player if that has anything to do with it. Thanks.

i think the purpose of the crossover is to get specific setting on your amp, no youdont need it for a system.
you should get an amp to push your subs because your radio will not have enough watts to make the subs move.
the sub out is for your amp.there are RCA cables that connect your radio to your amp..
i hope i helped somewhat

1. Crossover basically only allow a certain ferquency range to pass through to your speakers. For example you would want crossover that only allow low frequency to pass through for your subs. You do not need them with subs but it will sound better.
2. Yes you will need an amp. Head units do not put out enough to push on 12 much less two. So your best bet is to buy an amp with a crossover already built in. I am assumeing with out looking at your head unit that the SUB OUT you mention is a there to control the sub.
