so the car that i'm getting is kinda basic and doesn't have the roof cubby. It has the depression for it... but not the plastic piece... so i was thinking.... would it be feasable to put a 7 inch flip down there instead of finding the plastic cubby? and what brands should i look for that are good and not too expensive... and do they have them that take the dvd directly or will i need a player no matter what? also what is reccomended... or what do some people suggest? thanks for the input!

yes i think it would be possible just need to find a beam to screw it into. As for type, some are just screens which require a player also, others have the slot for the DVD and use RF headsets.

I had a flip-down in my alero. My kids loved it when we went on long trips. Here's a pic. It's a few years old but it worked great. I got the flip-down, 2 wireless headsets, the remote, power source cable for 175.00 at sounddomain.com

sweet... yeah i'm noticing they aren't as expensive as i thought they were... i just thought they must be crappy... i saw on ebay a pair of sun visors that had monitors in them... debating if it would look alright. do most of these units have headphones or can you run it into the cabin speakers?

I did a really good write up on it with lots of pictures. Check the how to section, you may want to redo your headliner with the theme colour of your car while you have everything apart. Good luck.

When installing no need to find a beam, just get a thin, like 1/4 in. piece of plywood or some sort of wood that is probably about the size of the base of the monitor and put that directly behind headliner and just run some short screws through the bracket of the monitor and through the headliner into the wood. Worked really well on my buddies 12in. in his pickup!

Well I recieved 2 sets of headphones when I bought the screen and then the guy that installed it for me gave me another one.

I did have it running through my speakers also. I think if your reciever has an aux on it then you can run it through your speakers. If not I think you have to buy an fm modulator or something (not really sure) then you can run it through your speakers.

Yeah...I think most of them come with an on off switch (or you can install your own) for when people want to listen to the movie in the headphones.

sweet... thanks for the info... anyone ever seen the little pods that hold the 6 ich subs by your feet? i've seen em on ebay before but there aren't any there now and i don't know where they get em... any ideas? also... are there any dependable discount audio sites around?... oh and anyone with pictures of your aftermarket head units post some pics... i am looking into how i want to mount it casue obviously our stock headunit is about twice the size of an aftermarket one.... so what do you do with the spare space... i was thinkin about fiberglassing a little... but i dunno...

i bought a bracket for my old cavalier that allowed me to put an aftermarket headunit in that space with an EQ right under it. Fit perfectly and looked pretty good, i'm actually gonna do that again, since i just bought an aftermarket deck and already have the EQ.
