shit, stock mapping is not up to performance par and can be remapped to increase horsepower by alot right off the lot.

nhartwell 01-02-2007 02:04 PM

i guess im not sure with alero's... but u should be able to remap for some xtra horse and better responsiveness

it's not needed. i had an intake manifold swap, throttle body swap, custom intake piping, header, high flow cat, resonator, and full exhaust piping with no computer management what-so-ever. it just isn't needed. i'm not saying it wouldn't hurt to play around in hptuners and try and squeeze another 1/2 horsepower out. but, it really isn't worth it.

lol i havent ever played with it myself on a car, but i used to do it on bikes that would come in, and boy those things are mapped to shit stock.. u see a big difference when remapping them.. the concept is the same i believe with the bikes and cars, but i guess they might just do quite the better job on cars like the alero.

what i've always wondered is why a vehicle would not be programmed to perform at its very very best but it must not be in all cases.. maybe it is just a motorcycle thing.

it won't jack up your insurance......just bolt it up and drive it.....installing nitrous doesn't have to do anything with insurance......

and even if I do eff something up... like the car won't start I could always just re-introduce the original computer specs to it

This isn't Need For Speed man, you can't change gear ratios with a computer. I would take it to someone who knows what they are doing and talking about. A local shop wants to charge me 200-300 to tune, but they would never charge again once they tuned my car so try and find something like that.

because not every vehicle/motor is exactly the same. automakers error on the safe side with the programming because its not even close to cost effective to fine tune every car on the assembly line. ;)

as far as tuning software, i use DHP's PowrTuner and love it. with simple bolt ons it is true that it is not necessary BUT it is ALWAYS beneficial. if you are like me and end up with ported everything and a big cam then you have no choice because the VE of the motor has change so much.

where do u guys go that its only gonna cost u under 500 for exhaust? here i was quoted at 650 for a full new exhaust system, headers obviously not included.

IDK if someone answered your question already, cause i didnt read any other posts, but if you want a nice cheaper exhaust, go to www.car-stuff.com and get the pacesetter exhaust, it says its only for the 2.2 and 2.4 but it works on the 3.4(if thats what you have), i forgot what the cost of the exhaust is, but its under 300.
