when did the s10/sonoma get a supercharger? i can only recall a turbo.

alerored04 10-15-2007 11:11 AM

plus the s10 came with the 3.4 not a 3400. I have seen eatons bolted to a modified uim but it requires a large hole in the hood.

blueolds01 10-15-2007 02:49 PM

some one needs a lesson in s-10's!

only engines ever offered in the s10-2.5l (iron duke),2.2 ,2.8, 3.4 ,and 4.3.
there were others, but the were worthless for the most part.
the only s10/sonoma ever offered with and kind of forced induction came on the syclone and typhoon and it was a turbo charged 4.3. stock no other s10 had forced induction.

rustyballs_69 10-15-2007 08:58 PM

I never said that there was an S 10 that came from the factory with a supercharger. I have seen them with superchargers so I kinda figured, oh I don't know, that you could buy one maybe.

Ok, so the 3.4 is a retrofit engine for older 2.8s, it NEVER came stock.

This is the list of engines.

4-cylinder
1.9 (isuzu)
2.0 (Chevy)
2.2 Diesel (Isuzu)
2.2 (chevy)
2.2 "2200" (chevy)
2.5 (Pontiac)

6-cylinder (All Chevy)
2.8 Carb, then TBI
4.3 TBI
4.3 CFI (original Vortec)
4.3 Turbo
4.3 CSFI (96+ Vortec)

No biggy man, I should have made it more clear.

Where might I find a Turbo Kit with a T3/T4 Turbocharger?

alerored04 10-17-2007 09:31 PM

http://www.turbochargedpower.com/99-04%20Grand%20Am.htm

although they say they r redesigning it

kwhauck 10-18-2007 02:31 PM

well if you want to do the work, you do a custom whipple like me!!!! the eatons really do limit the power output because you can't spin them that high, with the whipple i should see around 20psi, maybe more.......

volfenhag_alero 10-18-2007 11:26 PM

I emailed HP about that turbo kit for the Grand Am and now all I can do is wait. I'm still hoping to push at least 12lbs. of boost through the motor.

when you build a turbo system, if done right, you can install a larger turbo for more boost, smaller turbo's normally spool up quicker for low end power, larger turbo's spool up later for more mid/top end power. and you can even modify to the point of twin turbo.

i believe milzy has stages for most of the parts on a 3400.

alerored04 10-19-2007 12:25 PM

oh. I always hated the term "stage" what the hell does that tell me about a part?

volfenhag_alero 10-19-2007 08:27 PM

Stage means the modification extent to the factory part: Stock-Stage 1-Stage 2-Stage 3 and so on.

alerored04 10-20-2007 01:06 AM

i know what it means. I am saying that it sounds gay rather than say what is done to the part. Ex. mild porting, valve job, stiffer valve springs. "Stage 2" tells me none of that. Hence my assesment of it's stupidity.
