Wow oh wow...
You shouldnt be running both of those subs together bridged nd in asingle slot port box. They are different subs. The amp wont produce the power it should when birdged, asthey are different subs. The subs wont move in sync or one may move further than the other. One sub may get more ower than the other. Thats just wrong on so many levels. Choose one sub, sell the other. Build a proper box. Then it will wang. |
I didnt wire them together so idk exactly how this works but ill try my best to explain it the way my friend did to me.
i dont know how much truth is in what he said BUT... he said when he wired it up since theres more than 3ft of speaker wire the bridging problem is prevented and each sub recieves equal ownership of the amp and the power it can put out. They both move at the same time, at the same speed. If i pick up on any issues I'll wire them as separate subs. |
If each sub is wired to its own channel thats a good start.
If they are not hes full of crap and anyone who says different doesnt know a thing, so beware. If both speakers are wired to one terminal on the amp its not good news. You can probably live with them being in a common chambered box, but there are drawbacks. If your friend thinks Im wrong send him here. He needs a lesson. But heres the short of it. With two different speakers they can not be wired to one terminal, mono, bridged, series. They MUST be wired separate. Basically the motor consists of a magnet and a VC former with the voice coil wire wrapped around it. Now they could utilize different wires between subs, different spiders, hell different metal in the motor structure. All of it has an effect on the Thiele Small parameters of the sub. If boths subs T/S specs are not identical (within reason here) then they wont pull power the same from the amp. Their impedance will change at different rates... |
^^ the sound guru has spoken.

Thanks Ryan, I trust someone on here a lot more than this particular friend, hes not a sound guru, hes a forced induction guru (more turbos than s/c)...
So i think ill go ahead and rewire them as separate subs on sunday when im off from work :) |
