I think because the hotter they get they lose some intensity in there magntic field. Also they are extremly powerful, and a magnet the size required for some subs could do some damage if it isn't handled properly....Here's a comparison s Neodymium magnet the size of a golf ball can wipe a credit card or send some metal things flying.

exactly. why have a 90lb ferrite magnet, if you could substitute a 10lb neo?

Because an equivalent neo magnet would make the sub way way way to expensive...

Neodymium is a rare element and cost about a $1 a gram. There are 453.6 grams in 1 pound.
