i'm constantly buying from ryan... excellent sales man/tech help.

Ryan from Ohio 08-17-2009 10:35 PM

Thanks guys I do what I can when I can :)

Afugy 08-17-2009 10:54 PM

Ryan you should be safe in Ohio to run those, its not about how bright they are its about how the lights beams are pointed, low beam/ high beam, as long as the low beams are not in the eyes of on coming traffic on a level road you will be fine.

to clarify the mounting point where smurf is suggesting, in the first few pics....

The little L bracket I made from scrap aluminum, to mount the ballast.

I have the 5000k from Richie.

Ryan from Ohio 09-02-2009 10:22 PM

Now thats a nice comparison!

I need to get a set of these done in my car when I can afford a set! lol

00WhiteAlero 09-12-2009 07:30 PM

where can i get a set? link please?

cherrington17 09-12-2009 08:15 PM

search for HID.

aftermathalero sold me mine. (any color, lifetime warranty on everything for $165)
ryanfromohio also sells them (select color and size, lifetime on ballasts) $110

ensuring that I mount this correctly

I have a kit from Ryan and plan to install it tonight or tomorrow. I am posting some pictures of the mounting kit it comes with and the way I think it is supposed to be set up. I would like further clarification or correction if needed though. Thanks all.

There is an L piece and a C piece. I am assuming the C-piece wraps the middle and screws into the L-piece. Then I screw the L piece onto something in my engine block. But if it is hanging...seems like it would be kind of loose this way.

XanderWiFi 06-30-2010 11:17 PM

how I think it latches together.

PappaSmurf 07-01-2010 12:32 AM

As far as I can tell from your pictures and me being on my phone, you are correct in how they attach. However DO NOT screw it into your engine block!!!!!!
Go back to the first page and look for the mounting location ( if you need further clarification, cherrington points at it with his finger in his pics on this page). That is the ONLY place it should be mounted in MY opinion.

XanderWiFi 07-01-2010 12:47 AM

The mounting is a bit more obvious as I look back now. I will actually have to bend the L piece to dip it down. Did not consider that before.

XanderWiFi 07-01-2010 12:56 AM

success

Got one wired. Just have to mount it now. Looks freaking sweet and it's just in my garage. (I'm letting seafoam soak overnight so I can't start the engine until morning...so no night pics for now)

I can hear the dang thing humming....

heineck 07-01-2010 12:58 AM

finished results

and they're in : D

Oops...tails one doesn't belong...

cavaliers60 07-01-2010 03:16 AM

Thinking about doing this sometime soon. Would look awesome on my car. Should I just do these as high beams, or just go with the low beam spot? I really don't want to get pulled over.... But I guess if I do, I can just switch them out and use them in the high beams...

XanderWiFi 07-01-2010 10:18 AM

Do I have to worry about the ballast overheating and melting plastic pieces?

Also, any ideas what to do about flickering light problems?

And does anyone have HIDs for their high beam? I just noticed my HIDs are only for low beam.

PappaSmurf 07-01-2010 07:32 PM

You don't have to worry about the ballast melting anything. And also the flickering patternss, I have never had any problems like that from my set.

XanderWiFi 07-01-2010 07:36 PM

I had to remove the daytime running lights (DRL). Relay number 22 as diagrammed on the lid of the engine fuse box. Just for future reference lol.

Philbar71 07-09-2010 10:57 PM

^ What year is your car? I believe if it's an 03 or later they use half powered low beams as DRLs and thats why they were flickering.

I will absolutely admit I got it from this thread. (smurf specifically)

Also... mine didn't come with a mounting bracket, so I had to make my own.

Did you ever find a solution to ur flickering lights. Mine do the same (even interior lights) and even though it was around the same time frame, I cannot say for certain that that is what is making mine flicker....

XanderWiFi 07-12-2010 05:22 PM

Yeah, I had to disable the daytime running lights. Relay 22 in the engine fuse box. There is a diagram on the lid of that box that will give you the location. Essentially, it is an issue of voltage for full lights compared to the daytime running lights.

alerogls001 07-12-2010 07:52 PM

Bahhh... and I almost did that one day. I'll put it on my list Thanks man.

mlenn9 07-19-2010 02:46 PM

how do you disable the DRLs? i found the found the place in the fuse relay center but how do you disable it?

robalero 07-19-2010 03:12 PM

I think you just take the fuse out but I dont know really I am sure someone with the knowledge of it will chime in

mlenn9 07-19-2010 03:26 PM

alright, cause i installed my HIDs and they arent even lighting up... i would like to try disabling the fuse before ordering a wiring harness to see if it works... if there are any other solutions, please someone let me know, thanks

probably wired them backwards. its a common problem with some HID types.

having your DRL enabled, will cause them to be on all the time... it WILL NOT CAUSE THEM TO NOT TURN ON. (stress for importance, not yelling)

robalero 07-19-2010 04:59 PM

yea its very easy to install them backward, I had a HID set and one side had to be upside down ( the connectors ) for it to work on that side

mlenn9 07-19-2010 08:28 PM

i went to the local shop, bought a wiring harness for 20 bucks now the work perfect! but thanks for the help..... but i would like to know if there is away to disable/turn off the daytime running lights

cavaliers60 08-16-2010 02:57 PM

Installed my HID's today. I noticed a difference in your set, Smurf, compared to the one I bought from Ryan. Mine does not have an actual plug for the stock harness to plug into... Just a positive and negative wire with a metal piece on the end. So what I did was slide those into the plug and taped it tightly so they don't have a risk a falling out.

Also, putting the ballasts there is a PAIN when putting that screw back in. Everything works though, and my 8000k HID lights look soooo sexy on my midnight blue Alero. :D

cavaliers60 08-16-2010 08:41 PM

Drove around just a little bit ago. I love the fact that they stay on like my regular lights did when I shut the car off. :) I like how they come on and shut off. Really fast (like LED's are) and I love it! :yahoo:

While driving around, had a cop on the other lane coming towards me, and they didn't do anything... To be honest, I think these lights are a little easier on the eyes.

Ryan from Ohio 08-16-2010 08:43 PM

So the set you got wasnt simply plug and play?

I thought they all were?

Im not on the upside with the HIDs. So customer feedback is all I have to go by. If theres an issue let me know. I dont want to associate myself with bad products.

It is. The only thing was the wires that plug into the factory harness. they have these metal ends that look like they would fit into an empty plug (like you would have to get your own or something...idk), but I put them in the harness plug and taped them up just to make sure they don't slide out (which I doubt they would have). I'm just a little cautious about things like that. If you'd like, I can take pictures of it tomorrow.

Other than that, I'm extremely happy with them. Very simple to do and definitely looks awesome! :D

robalero 08-17-2010 02:07 PM

i ordered mine from DDM tuning their on for $25 atm from them will see when they get it how it is.

cavaliers60 08-21-2010 05:56 PM

Quick note, hang your ballasts upside down..... i just ran into a problem with mine getting water in it somehow when it rained last night... Now I have one that has a LOT of water in it.... So make sure your plugs are pointed down...

robalero 08-21-2010 08:12 PM

will do

cavaliers60 08-21-2010 09:26 PM

lol I had a good 2" of water in that ballast! My shorts had a big wet spot from all the water I got out of it. LOL I was shocked at how much water got in there....

Ryan from Ohio 08-21-2010 10:18 PM

Thats just odd. I figured these things would be water tight considering that they are placed in an engine bay...

Maybe they forgot the water protection on the one ballast?

I dunno, its hard to understand how or why.

I know... The other one was just fine... Oh well, no big deal... As long as I get a replacement and have no other issues. LOL
